I'm at the GATEWAY leadership conference now at SLU and Dr. Jacobs is hosted as keynote speaker. She's great and her kit is quite resourceful ~

Those of us who where in scientific research for decades and moved to education know how interdisciplinary approach to thinking is very important. That means you can see that none of the Noble work came from one discipline thinking. Read the beautiful lecture my uncle recipient of the US Congress medal spoke on the subject of Shakespeare, Newton and Beethovan: the three men connects humanities, science, mathematics and music.

Learn from the past, use and implement the present technology, and then combine the two of them. I love the idea of creating apps. The younger students try this the better. For that matter, when was the last time, a teacher (you or someone you know) developed an app?

Whoever's phone is going off during the beginning of the video should be ashamed of themselves....like 3 times in a row. Seriously?

As usual, Jacobs excels at marrying new with existing, and gets too carried away with neither.

Digital imperialism at a high pitch. Far too dismissive of the past. She should check the etymology of "research" (it does not mean "to search again"). Absurd to educate for technological advances of tomorrow. Strange comment about the worthlessness of oral presentations (as she is giving one). Oral communication is a fundamental skill, a leadership skill. Thoughtless and arrogant to dismiss it so facilely. She thinks she's an oracle.

This is so disturbing. The presenter is latching on to tech fads and the presentation is full of holes. Apps take time to develop, while oral presentations guarantee that young minds can do essential public speaking in front of peers. There isn't anything wrong with teaching a child how to blog or how to do photography and video, but these are supplemental skills. I say this as a person who works in media. The real test of learning is unplugging a child from technology to see if they can still function, be mindful and deliver coherent communication. Children's biology does not change as quickly as our phone apps and technology. If you don't teach children the skills that require a bit of struggle, the grit and resilience will be missing in their lives. I completely disapprove of the fervour and poor reasoning offered by this presenter.

Bravo! Fads change, basic required skills do not. Students need those first... This presenter is iconoclastic and irritating.
