Two major differences between the airlines and all the coffee shops, telecommunication systems and technology based industries you mentioned. 1. FAA regulations stifle innovation by making it unprofitable to invest in new technology or even take a risk trying new ideas. 2. Liability insurance keeps regulations in place which is perpetuated by the public irrational fear of flying. I agree that changing the product delivery would do a great deal but people have to be willing to pay more. It is sad that flying has become like riding a bus. Having higher quality airline options to pick from would be great and would help though.

The amount of nonsense in this is baffling. Yeah you can have the luxury from back then... If you're willing to pay the price. Since most people aren't willing or able to do that... You get cramped in with so many people that it still makes economic sense to do so with that tiny profit margin. Clearly he has no proper understanding of the airline industry.
