Darwin graduated with a bachelor of science from UTSC in 2015. In 2016 he started his masters in science under the supervision of Dr. Marc Cadotte focusing on the impacts of invasive species on multiple ecosystems. Darwin has always been fascinated by the patterns we observe in nature and hopes to bring this curiosity to a wider audience. For his talk, Darwin will be speaking about biodiversity and why it is vital for the planet. He will be detailing how biodiversity was measured in the past and present. Finally, he will be explaining how a better understanding of biodiversity can inform the practices we undertake to conserve it. Darwin graduated with a bachelor of science from UTSC in 2015. What a brilliant man. I am so grateful human's like this exist, trying to educate the rest of us. Biodiversity is so very important and we are getting so close to a point where we will lose it all. I'll be sharing this!

I have seen in my 32 years on this planet huge changes to our environment, things that grew when I was a child at home, no longer grow, the abundance of animals and birds has dwindled. We need men like this to educate us, and show us forward.

I am a driver for a hotel and my greatest passion is nature. And biodiversity is my favor word! I think it is an absolute miracle. So as anyone who loves nature knows the planet is in trouble and it's all because of humans. And most people don't even know and even worse don't care. So as I said in the beginning I drive people to the airport.. and I started playing this video in the background so people herd it. I wanted to see how accepting people were to learning things and I wanted to see if people knew or cared or if they were even open to knowing the truth. The results varied. Most people agreed to let me play something in the background but didn't show signs on interest or lack of interest or anything. But some people really responded and I had some of my best conversations with them. I think every human on the planet needs to watch this video and video's like it! But many will just *go back to sleep (a perfect circle) like sheep sheep sheep. Or maybe an Ostrich lol 😬

We live on such a fragile, finite planet... The warnings have been coming at us for YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS. I commend this gentleman and being passionate enough to continue on doing the incredibly hard work his Father did before him - it would be a thankless job and frustrating having to deal with us uneducated folk. I'm all about education people to be sustainable consumers and then, to ensure they are nurturing their bodies whole - I do believe once this is done then people will finally be able to wake up and see what we need to do for the planet - there are still some zombified people to wake up.

The abundance of life in its reality is a beauty of magnitude that we have the privilege to behold. Too many have never seen nature and have no way to get to open land. I have tons of belongings but I found them. Social Media itself has the most toxic elements to the environment, the hardware required to scale to the total number of people on the entire planet. We are in trouble.

As much as I admire him and the overall speech; I have to push back against the notion, (though it is valid), that eating vegetarian is important. For those of us that enjoy eating meat and benefit physiologically from the carnivorous diet like native Apex predators that have their ecological service; we have our niche in the ecological environmental movement with our roots of enjoying meat eating, in the native ecology of grasslands like the African savanna, the ecosystem of Yellowstone and other examples. And don’t forget the needed ecology of gardens and agriculture of plants for us to eat to grow healthfully and sustainably. Watching a TED talk on the savory Institute and what they are doing has been another source of inspiration for me, and vindication of enjoying the supplement of meat, so long as that meat comes from a healthy food chain and is ecologically stewarded. At the same time, whether it is this TEDTalk, or the savory Institute; the common moral is learning from our natural world and global ecosystem to live in that timeless balance that developed for millions of years. We humans can be either the destroyers or sustaining stewards of our planet, like indigenous tribes profess to have done across their history. The final word about politics. There is every election, indeed current events, aspiring dictators to vote out, and sometimes being those very politicians we wish we could vote for with a commitment to enact the policies for our global ecosystem, as well as our economy, and fighting back against the corruption that got us to where we are now.

my note: the first part demonstrates what humen have been doing hurting the nature and biodiversity, and resulting unhealthy eco systems. The 2nd part, what is eco system, and what functions it provide. The 3rd part, how to measure biodiversity. The last part, what can we do to preserve biodiversity.
