Growing up I was taught to question whether something was a want or a need, and if it wasn't a need I was encouraged to wait a day and see if it was still a want. A little thing but it's stuck with me and I think it works really well!

Choosing to pursue medicine in my mid-20s was an extremely tough choice I had to make, especially since I was about to leave behind a career in engineering and financial comfort for a path that required hard work, discipline, and frugal choices. Now that I am finishing up medical school, I'm starting to feel the gratification and validation that I had made the right choice. It's very evident to me now the difference of being your own master of desire, rather than giving into convenient impulses when going through rough patches in life
