What is theatre? What makes good theatre? How does Shakespeare tap in to universal truths that represent ALL people ALL the time? Why must you ALWAYS enjoy a classic play, even if you fell asleep for two thirds of it?
In their highly informative talk 'Know More About Theatre, You Uncultured Oafs' theatre mavens post answer these questions and more.
post are a collaborative performance ensemble based in Sydney comprising Zoë Coombs Marr, Mish Grigor and Natalie Rose. post are concerned with the moment of theatre, live connection and the truly absurd, drag, imposters, impressions, bad acting, boy genii, The Biggest Loser, birth, death, auditions, shamans, epitaphs, avatars, and those nightmares where you have to give a speech, but haven't got any pants on. Their latest work Oedipus Schmoedipus ran at Belvoir Theatre as part of the 2014 Sydney Festival.
TEDxSydney is an independently organised event licensed from TED by longtime TEDster, Remo Giuffré (REMO General Store) and organised by his General Thinking network of fellow thinkers and other long time collaborators.
TEDxSydney has become the leading platform and pipeline for the propagation of Australian ideas, creativity, innovation and culture to the rest of the world.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This was truly rich. I loved the satire. "White men obviously have an unique access to universal truths. And if you are not represented in the classics then you either don't matter or don't exist." This was too awesome. I was surprised that they put this on TED talks. Most of the time people look down upon satire like some weird plague or something.

Very enjoyable, though they were wrong to suggest that classic theatre was exclusive to white men. China and India, amongst others, have long traditions of theatre and classic plays by historic playwrights. Kalidasa, in India and Tang Xianzu, in China, being two examples of such playwrights.
