A shared spontaneous, creative musical expression between Vi An and her husband, Matt Hanson on xaphoon and percussion instruments, with guest musician Bijan Maysami on Persian santur.
The artist Vi An is self-taught and specializes in various Asian long zither, harp-like instruments including the Vietnamese dan tranh, Chinese zheng and Japanese koto, as well as producing electronica on various hardware and software synthesizers. Her collaborations are vast, extending her ethereal creativity towards theatre, dance, film and artists around the globe. Vi An devotes her entire life to music, professionally, a full time artist for over 18 years, since she started, she has independently released over 15 original solo albums and has been included in thousands of creative projects around the world.
This Calgary based artist's most worth mentioning work is with the Green Fools Theatre since 2005. Vi An and musical colleagues were awarded the Betty Mitchell in 2006 for outstanding sound design and composition in Dancing On Water. Their most recent project together, with Vi An as composer and actor, entitled Elephant Song by Jennie Esdale, takes you on an enchanted journey through puppetry coupled with live music and composed musical soundscapes by Vi An, evoking the utmost precious compassion within all of us, the awareness of conservation efforts for elephants, and Vi An's story as an immigrant it's centre piece.
