Ananth Pai That's the thing about China. India has soured its relationship with practically all of its neighbours. Unlike India, who is aggressive with practically the whole world if it doesn't suit their mood, China wants everyone to come aboard and work together. Other countries compete with other nations while China's only competition is itself.. They do not try to be better than everyone else but they strive to be better than what they were yesterday. And that is what we all should do in our personal lives too. But such profound vision is not bestowed upon everyone. If you still do not believe that everyone should come together to make this world a better place, the loss is yours. The venom one carries doesn't poison others but one's soul.

Look at China's relationship with its neighbours, It has problem with Vietnam , Mangolia , Taiwan and also with India and with a small country like Bhutan too. Any country that picks on Bhutan is a bully. Single party rule will not last long, they will be internal frictions, India has a smaller economy now, but already our growth rate is atleast 1.5 % more than China ( IMF numbers ), wait for another 20 years to see what this results in. we will see in our lifetime how the current communist government can handle slowing down of the economy.

The Deaf Mute "... a trillion people..." Space has room, materials and energy to support millions of billions of people just in our solar system. China is developing some space expertise. I am excited for a future forged by Chinese thinking. Economic growth that goes to infrastructure that fosters still more efficiencies. Automation can go a long way to bring on post-scarcity. Efficient fullfillment of everyone's needs and less spent on military. Wars are massive wastes of blood and materials. Even preparation for war is a waste, tying up men and materials that spend almost all their time doing nothing. $2 trillion world-wide wasted on weapons. NASA's budget is roughly $19.5 billion per year. What could a global space program equipped with $2 trillion per year accomplished?

It is now 5 years later and China has over 35,000 kms of high speed rail. The USA still has ZERO and the California construction is a boondoggle of historical proportions. Well, you can get a VPN, although I've heard that it's gonna get banned in the near future or somewhat. But you can still get all that you can get in the U.S., whether it's things similar to FB, Twitter, Instagram, KZbin, Uber, and much more. The only good thing that I can think of where U.S. is better than China, for now, is KZbin. TED talks, National Geographics, and maybe some teachers. However, we do have access to FB, KZbin and all that in Hongkong, so it's not really a restricted internet, it just depends on where you are in China. You can also go to Taiwan and get access to these sites. I believe Macau also has free internet, not sure about that though.

In Toronto Canada we deal with with weather extremes of 40C to -40C, the standard rail we have requires high maintenance due to the temperature shift and icing in the winter. A high speed rail line with such temperature extremes becomes more complicated. The weather in Alaska and going through Canada is complicated and you must deal with Native lands who will fight you every step of the way.

India has also friendly relations with England despite the 200 year colonial invasion. I understand that the english should apologise to India on similar terms. I say this as an Indian because if Japan and China could be at peace with each other then many issues with India and China can also be solved that are linked with Japan.
@sadenb
@sadenb 7 жыл бұрын
It's not about superiority. It is about living in harmony. India too has been robbed off for the last 1000 years by invasions followed by a socialist rule. Now if India and China at not on similar terms, it would be difficult to co-operate. China is flexing it's muscles to parts of South East Asia. Things would turn out better if they maintain peace with Japan and India. That's what our philosopher Buddha told.
@sadenb
@sadenb 7 жыл бұрын
India did not take part in OBOR because it violates it's territorial sovereignty and that is big let-down. China demonstrated that it wants superiority and not co-operation thereby diminishing chances. Harmony has to be done with respect.
@sadenb
@sadenb 7 жыл бұрын
Harmony does not mean surrendering. When you put a road right on our sovereign territory, of course we will protest. Japan has not created routes in your territory in the present day. But China is doing that in the present day. India has not invaded any country for the last thousands of years. Even after India helped Bangladesh win independence against Pakistan, it never annexed it even though it was rightfully India's. Rather India gave Bangladesh their own independence. We have never imposed laws on others or anything. There are 26 languages and 1700 dialects in India. Our civilisation has spread to all of east Asia without a single sword. So yes, we have showed the way.

Ego won't stand against simple economics. China holds about $3 trillion in US treasury bonds. Once China has enough trading partners it will turn to the US and say "we won't buy anymore of your treasury bonds". If that's still not enough she will sell some or all the bonds she has. The bond market will punish the US further with high interest rates. The American project will be over. A few years later China will buy America at 10 cents on the dollar. The US has been selling bits of itself for close to 50 years. Capitalists were looking for more profit year-over-year. Manufacturing went wherever labor was cheapest. Intellectual property went along with it. "That's okay, we've got banks" says America and they started selling evermore expensive houses to each other. China will conquer the world without firing a shot. And I welcome this development.

Is Dr. Gerald Chan a Korean? The truth is China CRH Company paid huge sums of money to Germany, Japan, France and Canada for the right to manufacture high speed trains locally together with the transfer of technology. After being taught how to build under the sales contracts, China CRH innovates and designs their own CRH trains. (Details about all the top universities in China are engaged with the innovation of CRH is too much a story to tell here.) China CRH system is NOT a reverse engineering of foreign high speed train, which implies pirating of foreign technologies!

It needs that first and probably more. 2) You need to build through Sarh, Chad and miss the very unstable countries of the Central African Republic and South Sudan. 3) Nigeria is far better able to support any railroad, because of its ability to fuel them. Dr. Gerald Chan has an elementary understanding of "reverse engineering of a high speed train"! No, you can not reverse engineer a HST system by "disassembling the whole trains into smaller parts in a methodical manner, step by step, and then rebuild from the basis of small parts into a whole train. And through this process in a simple way, the Chinese learned the skills of building a high speed rail." This standard of explanation is only good for primary school pupils.

A message of grand and constructive plan of action in the spirit of peace and common interest that, I believe, my generation has only known, at best, through literature and from the confort of our inheritance. There may be other dreams, like a better education for everybody in global challenges, but this view of the World as a community with a vocation to be well communicated is a better approximation than war.
@major600

+David Mateos A vision of connectivity is better than a vision of war. What is only alluded to is that the purpose of this grand system will be to facilitate commerce, i.e. capitalism, not enable a worldwide hug. The United States is cursed throughout the world for being pro-capitalism and pro-commerce, but this plan, which will complement America's vision of a market driven world, comes along and everyone is excited. I'm not saying you're that way. I'm just saying it's ironic that this rail project builds on an international system of capitalism sustained by America, yet China is admired and America is hated.

Chinese also has MegLev technology - Shanghai Maglev Train. Look at Japan's Meglev (Chuo Shinkansen) and check how long and how much for them to build. It's just like building a network with optic vs Cable in a community. Demand vs Cost. The price to repay Meglev (on each ticket) will be a lot higher than regular high speed rail. Concord vs Boeing 747 perhaps is a good example.
