I am originally from Partick in Glasgow Scotland. When I was growing up there in the tenements there was a man from the Highlands, a Tuechter, had a dulcimer and would open his window on nice evenings and play all the highland reels etc for us kids, it was really a wonderful sound.We were back in Glasgow a number of years ago and visited the Peoples Palace where I heard this wonderful sound being played in the glassed auditorium, it was someone playing the dulcimer. I was back in Partick in the 1950's early 60'sI spoke with teh gentleman who was playing and related my story, he told me that m,an from Partick was very, very well known for playing the dulcimer. Unfortuanetly i have forgotten his name.

What I'd like to see (and especially hear obviously) would be a fifty piece Hammer Dulcimer orchestra - with bass, tenor and other 'weights'. The sound would be epic, like truly, mind-blowingly epic and oh-so-beautiful too I reckon. One instrument is beautiful but it never feel complete or fully realised. Fifty of them in a full-blown hammer dulcimer orchestra would be the ultimate way to hear the sound I think. :)

Some songs lend themselves to the hammer dulcimer, some do not. Hotel California most certainly is one of those that does as beautiful and haunting as the original.

I found you because Inside Edition KZbin channel did a segment on popular videos of 2016, mentioned you recently (12/9/16) for your video going viral with an astonishing 85 Million views. I was blown away by the snippet they showed, an amazing cover. I never knew hammered dulcimer could sound so good. I first saw someone playing it at an outdoor gathering, circa 1980s, and fell in love with the instrument, an art piece to me, and the remarkable sound it made. I watched your whole video, and in the comments it was recommended to listen to your rendition of Hotel California. When I heard the song, I was a teenager living on my own. I was coming to terms with adulthood, and how surreal the world seemed to be. The revelations I had that reality may not be what I'd been taught, and a lot of smoke & mirrors going on. I grew up in the upscale 'burbs of San Francisco, with a front row seat to the 1960s drug boom culture. The epiphanous contrast of being a citizen in real life propelled me into something of an existential crisis. Speaking of which, at the time I had finally read the classic books of The Stranger by Albert Camus, Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankel, and The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castenada. Thank you for the memories.

This instrument has a beautiful sound and evokes such a strong emotional response that can easily bring you to tears
@TedYoderMusic3 жыл бұрын
It’s true. It has a deep emotional pull. Not sure if it’s because of its rarity but… it’s there.
@gegervary Жыл бұрын
It’s not the rarity, but rather they way it sounds and how you make it beautifully sing. I love string instruments in general but this is something else, something you made me discover. I couldn’t find this model with the dampers online though. Is it custom? It actually looks much rather like a Hungarian Cimbalom than what I found out a Dulcimer to be. Is that possible?
