One thing I love about sisterlocked, or loced people in general, is that we are so time aware. We really appreciate and celebrate every month of our locs' age.

Wow, I really appreciate the feedback. I've gone though a myriad of feelings concerning my Sisterlocks and initially I wanted to track how I felt month to month. However I haven't been as consistent as I'd like but one thing I can say is patience is key. You will absolutely love your locks because they truly "grow on you".This month will be two years and I can honestly say they have come a long way. Can't wait to see styles and looks year two brings. All the best to you and keep me posted!

Funny you ask this question, last week I was down the jersey shore and I didn't have a care in the world when it came to my locks. Of course I washed out the Ocean and Chlorine water when I showered at night and then I used a leave in conditioner after each wash. At the end of the week I did a deep conditioning treatment with heat. During the first year I was told not to use conditioners also not rigorously wash it during the first few months. Also you need to braid and band your hair ALWAYS

..cont'd..The first I'd say 6 months I braided and banded and since I had my locks installed in September I did not go swimming until the next summer. At that point my locks were mature enough to condition but my hair texture is highly coiled so at 9-10 months I was pretty much locked. Conditioners oils and other products possibly can unravel your locks. The loctician you choose is probably the best person to explain how your hair may react to certain products, my best advice is to...

..cont'd ..I usually deep condition then I use a leave in conditioner when styling. I also spritz my hair with a small spray water bottle filled with a few drops of tea tree oil and a teaspoon of Jojoba oil I think it has rose water in it too but if so not much I spray it on daily or every other day after the shower. Pure water is your friend when u have Sisterlocks, the humidity and moisture is awesome. I wash my hair every 7-10 days. I rinse if I sweat alot after a workout.

….continued…I really saw shrinkage around 3-4 months, it seems like my hair started to draw back into itself when it started the locking process. This is actually a really good thing. The hair is bunching together to create your new locks!! I would honestly say that I started with 5-6 inches of natural hair and at 9-12 months I had about 5-6 inches of locks that were maturing. So in other words I didn't see much growth in the first year, but the 2nd year I saw significant growth!

Wow these are both really beautiful I am debating hard on whether I should get sisterlocks are just traditional locs that are small? I would like to know for the lady who began with 10 inches when she sister loc'd how much of her hair shrank during the locking process. That's one of my fears that my locs will shrink up to my chin! Im at BSL right now with my loose natural hair.

I agree, we just chat or watch movies and before you know it I'm all done. Her daughter is the same both very pleasant consultants. My SL experience is so different from my "beauty shop" days when I would spend allllll day saturday waiting to get my hair fried, dyed and laid to the side. lol Don't miss those days at all.

Hi Vee do you have any breakage from the color and does your Locs feel hard and brittle or are they soft to the touch. Thanks!

Could you give some advice on how soon one can start swimming after installation and card of SL after swimming. Thanks :)

....I've also tried to find out about shrinkage without much luck. My hair shrinks crazy so will my it all shriveled up after installation lol?

cont'd...Do not swim in the first few months but if you MUST, then gently but thoroughly wash any chlorine or ocean water from your hair after swimming. Braid your hair in about 12-15 loose plaits and band the ends to prevent your locks from unravelling. There are plenty of youtube vids on this process. If your locks have matured then condition your hair with a light conditioner if u are not sure which one to choose then stick with SL products until u find products that work for your hair type.

Ok, now don't get nervous after I answer this question because yes, there is Shrinkage, however once your hair has come through the maturation stage then you will start to see significant progress in your hair growth after each retightening session every 5-8 weeks. Depending on your growth cycle. My hair grows at about a medium growth rate in my opinion. I started to see my hair really mature at around 12-15 months. Less shrinkage around that time and what I call "Hang time"
