Teen girl ID'd as pilot of small plane that crashed near Lock Haven

CLINTON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) - State police are providing new details on Thursday morning's plane crash near Lock Haven, in Clinton County.
Authorities say the pilot, a 17-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene after the single-engine Cessna 172 crashed into a wooded area along Allegheny Street in Woodward Township.

Odd place to crash in the pattern. Looks like she was on a downwind either abeam the numbers which would be where flaps start coming down or she just leveled he wings out from her cross-wind to downwind turn. Most crashes happen near the runway centerline in earlier or later phases of a landing pattern than this. Will be watching this one closely.

To any aspiring pilots out there: Start with gliders. Get your glider private rating and get a couple hundred hours flying solo in gliders before moving up to your power ratings. This young lady had no business whatsoever flying a 172 solo at her age and skill level. With better mentoring she'd still be alive today.
