I just bought 21 Teen magazines at an estate sale. From 1977-1980. $ a piece, I'm so excited to relive my youth.

As a kid in the 2000s, I was loyal to my American Girl magazine (despite never owning their dolls), and as a tween/teen in 2012~15 I LOVED my NYLON magazine subscription my mom got me ♡ I still have pages saved from my favorite outfit/style pages. Getting your subscription magazine in the mail was always such a fun treat!

Im from the UK and our late 90s/00s teen magazines were pretty much the same (I did also read the US magazines that my local newsagents would have imported occasionally). They also used weird "slang" that no one in real life ever used (e.g. referring to guys as "boyshapes" or "top totty" and parents as "rental units"). I still do the final rinse of my hair in cold water after reading it in Shout magazine 25 years ago.

omg why do these articles from 25 years ago sound like they were written by modern day AI

I only just heard about the deodorant thing within the last few years, but I remember the reason was because our body temps raise while we sleep. I’ve been doing it for a while now and it seems like it does work better than only applying in the AM lol 😅

Mitchum deoderant still exists! I always have one on hand for big events or presentations. It works great :)

Yeah it's still definitely known to be a good one! I only changed last year from using it for like 15 years

13:30: I bathed in apple cider for scars on my legs. They faded off.

Omg no wayyyy!! How well does this work like is it for fresh scars or does it not matter? And is there a certain amount to bathe in or does it also not matter?

@anyone1111, I don’t think so, probably wait three days to take an apple cider bath.

recently just bought a stack of Pleasant Company/American girl catalog & magazines 📚 the pleasure it gives me to look at the old pleasant company catalogs, pure bliss 😁the photos, colors, & little description of each item just can’t get it with looking online

Deodorant does work better at night. Dr Dray talks about this all the time on her channel. The aluminum needs time to sink into your sweat glands/pores. So putting it on in the morning isnt going to immediately work. Also Mitchum is still around!

Thanks for mentioning The Sweetest Thing, one of my favorite movies! I remember that scene well, where he starts spitting it out. 🤣

I was also only really into teen magazines around 12 to MAYBE as old as 13 or 14. By then it was 2003-2005 or as late as -06, so I do remember J-14 which at least maybe didn’t give pointers on whether or not to date someone who already had a child

I think I remember Girls Life touting the raw potato trick in order to get rid of dark undereye circles, but not for zits....interesting stuff. I also feel like one of the only people still buying magazines nowadays! It's been so sad watching them go from monthly, to bimonthly, and now to quarterly. I hope I'm not being too pessimistic, but I want to keep enjoying them while they still exist. I miss my old Seventeens and YM's so freaking much! I'd give anything to have them back.

I still refer to guys as players. That word has never weakened in usage since the 2000s 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh my gosh I would rinse my hair with ACV! I would take an old Tupperware pitcher, pour a splash in, and fill the rest with cool water. It had a clarifying effect, which 14-year-old me needed for my oily hair 😂

I swear that Sun In works! I lived in Palm Desert for the last half of middle school and high school. I wanted to highlight my hair and my mom wouldn’t let me for a while but she bought me Sun In. I was outside by the pool after school and every weekend, baking, with that stuff soaking my hair. Did I ever turn into a blonde? Not until I was allowed to get it dyed. Did it turn orange ish? Yep! So confirmed that it did lighten my dark brown hair! 😂🤷🏻♀️

For prom, my high school didn't let girls go solo OR with other girls. You literally HAD to go with a BOY.

Even though I am nostalgic of the 2000s, those magazines were just agents of the patriarchy, why were they forcing eating disorders and for girls to date wayy to young. I remember a teen magazine having an article telling young girls on how to attract boys in class, I swear society brainwashed a lot of us. Everything was about how to be skinny and attract boys.
