The fun part about seeing these reactions are always the initial reaction to the switch-up. But for me, I always get a real kick out of seeing the reactors reaction to the last chorus. Where she goes from the growl, straight into the clean singing/belting, then back to growling and that end scream.... And she just does it SOOOO seamlessly. Really goes to show, just how incredible her technic and talent really is. So glad you noticed it to :D

Many people think this is a live version, but it isn't. What you hear is a remastered album version with different drums. In addition to that the climax (the high belted E5) was edited. In the "Live Session" you only hear a high belt, in the album version you can hear a growl as well. I don't think Tatiana Shmailyuk is able to nail the E5 live. She also said in an interview, that she "usually skip this part". Don't get me wrong, I really like the song, but this video clip is just a big fake.

Tatiana is an experience that every reactor needs. She's not good at low harsh vocals for a woman, she's one of the best to ever do it. The band is crazy talented and these days I feel like they are more progressive than just about anyone still active.

What I love about Tatiana’s growls is that it’s very powerful and manly. Usually it’s very noticeable when women growl. Tatiana is the first that I couldn’t tell. I highly recommend their song “Perennial live @ Wacken”

Another cool feature of Tatiana's growls is the enunciation. Usually it's really hard to catch the words from growls. In Tatiana's case we can catch most of the words. And that words worth to be caught by the way.

That's one of the myriad things that put singers like Tati and Fefe into a different level than most. Having a wide range in harsher vocals is just as important as it in cleaner vocals.

Metal growling is very similar to gargling, but without water. You need to relax the back of the throat and allow it to do what it does with the soft tissue. It's different to a 'fry scream' which is done moreso with the front of the throat, but it can be easier to combine the two to flow between styles without putting stress on the vocal chords as sometimes happens with fry singers.

Fun reaction! Jinjer is in my opinion the best band around today. Tatiana is a vocal goddess, and the band which consists of Eugene on bass, Vlad on drums, and Roman on guitar are all true masters of their chosen instruments. You will find that no two Jinjer songs sound alike, as they pull from many different genres, and have a very unique, and versatile sound. The band is from Ukraine, and have recently had to cancel their tour with Slipknot due to Eugene, Vlad, and Roman being trapped in chaos going on in their home country. Tatiana was in California when the war started so at least she is safe. Hope to see you check out more Jinjer in the future. If you choose to do more I would suggest that you check out Perennial Live at Wacken next.

Tatiana is really one of a kind, I would guess all of us when we first heard her were all shocked. You are the second person to say she screamed in a healthy manner, I can't tell that. She has a video out on how she developed her scream too. Once you can get past her you realize the rest of the band is first rate also,. All of their songs are good, you might like to see "Perennial" next, a live performance and one of my favorites. If you just want to focus on her then check out "Judgement and Punishment" Anyway great reaction, all the best...

As a long time Screamer, all I can tell you is that screaming is just as hard as "normal singing," only that if you're bad at it, your throat dies and you're done, I always tell everyone that I took vocal classes and breathing exercises, along with practice, which made me understand how singing works and how I could scream in a way that wouldn't hurt me. And it works, because I've spent 10 years screaming with no throat problems, and made it easier too, because after those 10 years, I had a 4 year period without screaming due to personal reasons, and last year a band offered me a post to scream again, I said to them, "it's been 4-5 years, I may be bad at it," them the day came, I did all my warming routine I had devised back them, people even found it weird, because it involved a bit of me imitating a comedian, but when I started singing, everyone looked at me impressed, and let me say, I was too, it sounded perfect, like I never stopped. That's why I say, "It's easy to scream, it's hard to scream for your entire career."

Tatiana Shmalyuk has been singing in 8 different bands since she was 15 years old. The lyrics she made for this song are great! Tatiana was born in the year of Cat, 1987, according to the Chinese horoscope, but her Zodiac sign is PISCES. As a matter of fact she is here singing about herself revealing the treats of character of a Pisces personality. The band is originally from Donbass region in Eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian government attacked their own people in the Eastern part of the country in 2014 killing about 14000 civilians. The civil war has been going on in Ukraine already more than 9 years. Tatiana told in an interview that it was not easy to learn to growl. Much practice was needed.

I've been a metal-head for decades, but that particular style of aggressive vocal has never really been my favorite. But the different resonant space she's working with as a female vocalist produces a set of frequencies that have quite a bit more punch and sizzle on the top end. Plus she seems really good at shaping the sound to best fit what she's singing about at the moment. Great performance, and great reaction.

Such an in-depth look into the song, you've done far better than most channels in really digging in and learning about the song and the techniques! The excellence is showing and I can see your curiousity and respect will bring you a good audience. Just prepare for the weirdos and the haters, cause the better you are the louder they are!

When I was exposed to Jinjer a couple of years ago - via this very song and video - I was a metalhead, but not knowledeable at all about what was going on in the corner of the metal world where female singers were really beginning to master this kind of expression. Since I have learned that there are a lot of bands out there who employ harsh vocals from female singers, and do as well ... often times better ... than male vocalists. Look into eg. Employed to Serve, Venom Prison, Infected Rain, Fallcie, Spiritbox and last but not least (for now), Konvent (my fellow countrymen). Tatiana is one of the first in, though, and Jinjer is my favourite among the rising tide out there. For some of the inspiration behind Tatiana, look at Otep.

Check out Mythic...an all female death metal band that formed in 1992ish, but sadly only lasted a year or two. I love Jinjer now too....and CRYPTA. An all female death metal band formed from two ex-Nervosa members (Fernanda the bassist and vocalist....and the drummer Luana Dametto. ) sadly they just announced that their lead guitarist Sonia Anubis left to pursue her own goals.

It's awesome that you mentioned "duality" in her singing here. She is a Pisces and she wrote this because it reflects how she feels in her own life. Also, it's part of the astrological sign definition. DUALITY: Feminine - Pisces is known as a feminine sign as it is more receptive than assertive in its energy. This is also known as Yin energy (Yang is Masculine). Very good reaction. Love that you know about the use of the vocal folds being used here. Awesome! ❤‍🔥

The fact that an opera singer and someone who's only 18 can appreciate the talent that that group has that is saying a lot. Some people who don't engage in metal love to say they're just screaming

Firstly I must compliment you on your opera singing it sounds quite accomplished and strong especially for someone only 18 and still learning her craft. That was the best reaction to this song I have seen yet. You were perceptive, intelligent, musically educated and kept it real and reacted with honest emotions. You noticed her hand gestures and I might add body language that few reactors mention and which I feel add an extra helping of menace to her performance. I've seen 3 guys that were so spooked and maybe superstitious who couldn't even finish the song. :))) I also liked what you said in your disclaimer that you are doing these reaction video's to appreciate the singers talent and it is a way for you to learn new things. Glad you're not a no-it-all like some people and you sound humble but confident. Anyways its my pleasure to subscribe to your channel. Oh yeah I'm a Pisces like the singer Tatiana but I don't really believe in Astrology. Good luck in life and your career you're sweeter than sugar. :)

Sagittarius is a pretty common sign among rock singers - the whole pointing the way thing. Tatiana's Pisces expresses itself in concert by energetically merging with the audience and drawing them into her performance. I've seen them twice and they are amazing. Check out I Speak Astronomy live in Wacken or Perennial from the same show. Kudos for the knowledge you do have from outside your core expertise. If you want to dive deeper there is a text interview Tatiana did with Psychology Today ("Crushing Concrete with Jinjer's Tatiana Shmaylyuk") that touches on some of the stuff she talks about in Pisces, while their song Pit Of Consciousness goes deep into that stuff. Home Back is about their hometown in eastern Ukraine getting caught in the 2014 war and speaks powerfully for the experiences of the millions of ordinary folks caught in every war. Subbed. Cheers!

Very Nice Reaction! I don't know if you looked up any info on Jinjer, but they are from Ukraine and as you may know they are in the middle of being invaded by russia. Last we heard, the three guys in the band were in the capital of Kiev when the war started and have not heard anything since. Tatiana is in California with her boyfriend (or husband)? They were supposed to be on tour right now opening for the metal band Slipknot, but had to cancel. If you continue to react to more Jinjer try to watch the song live if possible. Their Official Video's are also good, but they are really good live. The song Judgement and Punishment one take vocals is very good and get to see Tatiana up close singing.

Her screams are incredible. She spent a lot of effort to sound like a male screamer, because generally women have a noticeably different timbre when screaming. She's one of the only female screamers I've heard who have successfully managed to learn how to sound convincingly like a male vocalist when screaming. And she somehow manages to do it without stressing her voice either.

Female vocalist have been around in metal for decades specially nowdays. There are thousands!!! Just cant get all the hassle. Tatiana is good and her presence on stage is even better. but she is not the only one or something new. The first one doing harsh vocals was sabrina from holy moses in the 80s. Arch enemy, nervosa, cripta, introtyl, spiritbox, kittie ..... Just to name a few. Specially in brutal death or grind. My favorite female vocalist is the one in cerebral bore. Extreme metal vocalist with lots of different techniques, tunnels, pig squeals, exhales, inhales, etc. For me, she is one of a kind, but its not for everybody.

In the video of their live performance of their song "Perennial" (live at Wacken,) there is a moment where she transitions from "growl" to "clean" in an instant (as opposed to here where there are a few musical notes between.) It's insane! A better look at her live vocal process is in the One Take Performance of their song "Judgement and Punishment." I recommend viewing both of these videos that I've mentioned to really get the full impact of Tatiana. ~Be Blessed

It's basically the same technique that low bass singers use to reach sub harmonics, the low growl gets the bass notes and the voice sings the 5th up, which makes it sound an octave lower as a power chord, which is why it's so good for metal, because it's a power chord.

I enjoyed your reaction & subscribed. I like to learn about the reactions people with different music backgrounds have to Jinjer's music because I always learn something new. Someone else commented that you don't really need the disclaimer - I agree with that, especially because you are very open with what you do & do not know. A very refreshing level of transparency. Many, many Jinjer songs are well worth reacting to. Either "Perennial" or "I Speak Astronomy" (both Live at Wacken Open Air 2019) will give you an excellent feel for how amazingly proficient Tatiana is at switching vocal styles on the fly. "Judgment & Punishment" One-Take Vocal gives you a great close-up view of Tatiana while she seamlessly shifts between reggae, metal belting & growling vocals in a true one-take with minimal effects. "Home Back" (Official Music Video) is an incredibly powerful & creative anti-war song & video inspired by their experiences during & since the 2014 annexation of Crimea & conflict with Russian-backed separatist militias in eastern Ukraine.

The music and lyrics are truly unmatched. They are so good people have difficulty trying to pick a favorite song from Tool.
