La bikina has nothing to do with a bikini. It's a word that either the author made up, or may have been a slang term at the time. La bikina is a woman--an elegant, majestic, very proud woman that has lost her husband or lover (the lyrics don't make that clear). The implication is that her man was her whole life and gave her status. And now he is gone (with no explanation) and she is too proud to show that anything is wrong. Everywhere she goes, she acts like she has everything under control. But she cries in private, every night. But she will never admit defeat and show the world her pain. It's a very upbeat song with very sad lyrics. A lot of music in Spanish is like that. Thank you for the reaction.

La bikina DOES refer to a woman wearing a bikini, the author's (Ruben Fuentes') account is that during a trip to the beach his young son asked him what a girl, who was wearing a bikini, was wearing, and the author replied that it was a bikini, so the young kid stated that the girl should be called a "bikina."

The lyrics are serious and sad and don't ever allude to sun, sand, or the beach. La Bikina is the nickname for a woman who has recently been abandoned and is mourning the loss of the love of her life. She's devastated. I don't think a woman in mourning would wear a bikini. Seriously, that would detract from the seriousness of the song. What do you say? Do you still think she was wearing a bikini?

Vikinga is the Spanish word for Viking woman, I always assumed the song was comparing her to a fierce Viking woman thus the lyrics describing her majestic demeanor. she cannot be tamed or easily shook, but deep down she Is actually in pain from a heartbreak, people gossip and speculate this about her, but her demeanor shows otherwise.

This speaks volumes about Luis Miguel commitment with rehearsing before touring. If you watch him doing “La Incondicional” live, at the end there’s a LONG part where he’s actually improvising in a jazz/soul fashion. For a while he took lessons with the one and only Al Jarreau.

I first found out about Luis Miguel while watching the movie Speechless in the early 90s and although I didn’t know Spanish I was amazed at his voice. Fast forward to today, I have 10+ albums of his, saw him in concert thrice, and my wife and I will be seeing him every time he comes back to Dallas now that we live here. Luis Miguel is without a doubt my favorite singer!! Thanks for the react vid and please do more of LuisMi!! Some more options are La Incondicional, No Se Tu, Hasta Que Me Olvides, Por Debajo De La Mesa, Amarte Es Un Placer, Me Niego A Estar Solo, Suave, Suena, and Hasta El Fin. Most of your subscribers have no idea that they just watched a legend who’s known as the Sun of Mexico. He’s a once in a generation talent and you need to check him out more. He’s been singing since he was 10 and his vocals are still amazingly strong. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert, don’t think, just go!

Great reaction :). The author of the song is Ruben Fuentes who wrote the song in the sixties - don't remember the exact year. There are a lot of different stories about how and why Ruben Fuentes came up with the song but Fuentes himself later confirmed what inspired him to write 'La Bikina'. He was having a walk in the beach with his son, who was just a little kid, and they saw a few girls in the beach wearing bikinis. His son then told him that all women wearing bikinis should be called 'bikinas'...he then went and started writing the song inspired in those women they saw on the beach wearing bikinis and the made-up word his son had created to refer to them.
