Teen Pregnancy PSA

I was hired to shoot this for West Valley City. The kids in the video wrote the spot. I directed and edited it.

Wow, as the person that got these kids to work together on a single social issue related to the community they live in I never thought that it would generate such interest, or go to so many different levels of debate, on so many different issues, from abortion, the hardship of teen parenting, abstinence, protection, right to life, regret, etc. I must say, seven years later, as life sent me in a different direction, I am proud to say somehow, something I took part in initiated discussion on so many different levels. Again, thanks to Spanky....he did a GREAT JOB getting the message across, his filming, and making the best of the people he had to work with.

I appreciate your point of view. The main message that the kids wrote in this spot was aimed at keeping kids from getting pregnant in the first place to avoid having to make those decisions. Thanks for commenting.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Listen up! Teen pregnancy can change your life forever. It's your future, be smart and be safe. Either don't have sex at all or use protection every single time. Those were in the words of celebrities and I'm not mentioning names. They were giving you tips to protect yourself from teen pregnancy.

The purpose of this spot is to get kids thinking before they act, before they make a mistake that will impact not only their lives, but the life of innocent children. You got jump started into adulthood with a big jump. You will need help. Family would be best, but from what I have seen, a girl who has her baby as a teenager does not usually have a supportive family, I hope you do. The Child Services of DHS in your state may also have things to help you and your baby. Keep your head up and focus on what is important for both of you. You will have both good times and bad ahead of you. Be strong.

I think it's great that there is an effort to educate kids about teen pregnancy and letting them see the consequences. I think THAT aspect of the message is fine. BUT, the look on those kids faces when they look at their child, their own flesh and blood is one of disgust, regret and disappointment. Like having a baby is the worst possible disease one could ever catch. Then the kids mocking them from the limo. That message would scare a pregnant teen into having an abortion. Just my opinion.

It sure as shit is hard. But I got to say, I did it, and there are benefits. I'm not saying teen pregnancy is a good idea, because it isn't. But it doesn't end your life. It just ends a part of it.

Kids who "just don't listen?" I'm pretty sure that's because they're their own people who make their own decisions, even if their decisions aren't the best. And how you say kids are over-sexed and obsessed with sex? How do you think they got that way? FROM YOUR GENERATION! Gosh, go get laid or something. Seriously. And maybe finish college too, especially before you start preaching to everybody else, telling them they're "wrong."

That is a horrible reason to become an atheist. I my pov, you cannot "become an atheist", it's just something you are. Either you believe or you don't and there's no choice in the matter.
