They were all in the middle of breaking up during the recording of this album and the fact they could even keep it together long enough to finish it says a lot to their dedication as musicians. There’s a documentary of the making of the Rumors album that you should watch that talks about their cocaine use and how their relationships were crumbling.

Not only a brilliant drummer but can you imagine keeping a band together, and producing an album like this, being in the middle of two couples breaking up? I have always thought Mick did not get the credit due to him, I think he was satisfied sitting in the background and being the heart of the magic.

I've been listening to FM live in the car for years and the studio albums Mirage and Tango again in the last 2 weeks. Lindsey is a sound tinkerer and perfectionist. While in the 70's this sounds like different guitars, in the 80's this sounds partly like the usual ring tones, too commercial for me and it doesn't have the same musical magic. Both are good albums and I certainly wouldn't want to miss a few songs.👍

What a fun album. And also, that was a slide guitar that you were hearing, possibly a dobro. I could have listened to that last section go on for another four minutes, that's how much I really sink into it. I just thought of something the other day. This is in terms of incredible debut albums. Boston is recognized as such, Led Zeppelin to some degree, and another one absolutely for sure is the very first self-titled Van Halen album from 1978. Everything on it is absolute fire and stuff that we all heard on the radio back then and that album got played in its entirety over and over in so many situations. Something to consider anyway. I have a feeling you would love it.

The studio version of "Silver Springs" is fine but if you watch the live version you catch all the drama. This was a one off reunion show put on by MTV for the 20th anniversary of "Rumours." Lindsey had been out of the band 10 years following an altercation with Stevie. The band rarely played "Silver Springs" and hadn't since '77. So the performance gets a bit intense.

You should look at the live version of Rhiannon from the midnight special. It's from the first album Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were on in Fleetwoodmac. You should check out the Tusk Album and the Mirage Album as well. Stevie Nicks is the queen of rock. One of the greatest singer songwriters of all time. Still rocking the stage at 75. She was a huge influence on music and still continues to be. You should also view her solo career the Album Bella Donna and the live version of Edge Of Seventeen from the white winged Dove tour 1981. You will see why she is the queen of rock and double inductee and first female to be inducted twice into the rock and roll hall of fame.

Linsey most likely used his Ovation acoustic for the recording of this. The style of chords resemble some Spanish guitar songs going from a minor to major key, back and forth throughout most of the song. A little reverb and it all sounds dreamy.

@@stevebuckland2053 Many thanks, fantastic sound (almost 50 years ago) and brilliant guitar solos. I'll watch the whole concert and compare this live song version with the live 1980 I always listen to because it's about 3' longer, which doesn't necessarily mean that I like it more. The blues generation (Lindsey only joined in 1975) simply has a more versatile guitar playing and vocally different way of expression than many later artists, less monophonic, which I appreciate very much. All the best to you!

@@stevebuckland2053 Sorry I have to report back. Midnight Special 1976 is awesome in many ways, especially the Rhiannon version with the guitar solo, I'm also a fan of World Turning. I didn't know Why from the 1973 album Mystery. Fantastic too I'm so Afraid/Rosebud, just don't know if the found video of Rhiannon UCSB 05-02-1976 is from the same concert, after dark? If you only listen to FM studio albums, where they mainly produced short radio songs, you only get to know one side of the band. A completely different musical dimension full of passion opens up live and of course now the videos.

If you liked this, the preceding album Fleetwood Mac from 1975 is a good place to go next. It has a similar sound to this and has some of their biggest hits on it, along with this one. Probably the closest in overall feel and quality to this album would be their self titled album, Fleetwood Mac, which came out directly before this one. Tusk, which came out directly after this one, is quite good, but it's also a lot, and can be a bit hit or miss at times. Tango in the Night is very good, but also quite different from this one as it also very pop and very 80's, and that can be a turn off for some people. Anything earlier and you're dealing with very different lineups of the group, that might as well be completely different bands, even though Mick Fleetwood was a constant presence throughout. Stevie Nicks' first solo album, Bella Donna, might also be another good one to try out.
