Teen Vogue has changed. I've noticed its progression toward leftism for a few years now but I wanted to figure out exactly when and why this famous teen magazine went from lighthearted fashion and celebrity gossip topics to a political propaganda machine. Here is what I found.

Teen Vogue used to be about teen stars, makeup, dating advice, personality quizzes, fashion for teens, and VMA contenders. 10 years ago, teens didn't care for politics because it was boring chatter reserved for adults. I don't know how it is today but back then teens couldn't vote on legal action until they reach 18 so these editors are basically targeting the wrong demographic with this woke bs.

Exactly. Teens are very impressionable. Often they don’t have a very good understanding of society’s problems and they always keep following trends, which includes the woke Mob. Sad.

I agree with how teen vogue is propaganda, and how teens are very impressionable, but I feel like the attitude of teens thinking “politics is just boring stuff for adults” is probably what got us here with the generation from 10 years ago that has now grown up (gen z, my generation) they didn’t want to talk about politics with their parents cause they thought it was boring, but when they became interested during school, the schools educated them instead with progressive ideals :/ parents should have been instilling virtue and good values in their kids that translates seamlessly to how it informs your politics instead of never addressing it and letting the schools do it for them… that’s the real failure

Amazing to see everyone here telling Teen Vogue how to run their business. Isn't this America, land of the free? So what's wrong anyway with Teen Vogue shifting their focus away puerile fashion and discussing more important things that teenagers actually want to discuss? Why is that a bad thing? Brett Cooper (and every other idiot on here) thinks that teenagers today want to be ditzy morons just like them. Well, they don't. They are far more engaged than any of us were. They care about the world. They care about the environment. They care about people's rights and equality... And don't the conservatives just HATE THAT?!?!? Hahaha...

I remember reading Seventeen Magazine back in the late 00s. There were heavier articles educating about EDs, warning about gambling addiction, giving advice with setting boundaries with guys. These pieces were great because they acknowledged that teen girls have real problems, and kept the focus on building girls’ self-esteem and resisting social pressure. I feel so bad for teen girls now. The whole world wants to adultify them, especially Teen Vogue.

Brett, you summed up the problem with the modern media even if you didn’t realize it. When you mentioned the Teen Vogue editor that got fired, “she was a FORMER POLITICAL WRITER for Axios…”. If you look at the majority of the activist writers across multiple genres, fashion, video games, movies, music, etc… they aren’t fashion writers, or gamers, or comics geeks, they’re political writers. Political writers who can’t get jobs with Politico, The Hill, Salon, Vox, etc.. so they take jobs where they can and inject politics into whatever genre they’re writing about. In the process they’re dividing whatever fan base that genre has and causing animosity. That’s why I hate activists, they go around thinking they’re fighting the good fight without having the self awareness to realize they’re just making a mess of things.

Activist do not actually fight. They insight conflict by sign holding. It's like holding up a group of people gather to hold signs saying "end the violence" while standing in the middle of a busy interstate. Only to showcase to the general public how violence was used to suppress there protest. That is what activists do. They simply wait for the sociopaths to see opportunity to unleash choas under the disguise of protests. Activists rarely do anything meaningful until they transition into extremism.

I was sometimes told 'you're too young to have strong political views' when I was a child. With the benefit of hindsight, I can see why. When you're young, your view of the world is too simple to understand nuance. You're also not in any real position to change things, so if you do have strong political views as a child you're often pointlessly angry about things that don't affect your life directly.

I used to have a collection of teen magazine subscriptions (seventeen, teen vogue, etc.) and I loved them! Then one day, I want to say around 2014.....Things started to get really weird and almost propaganda in nature. They were talking a lot about Planned Parenthood and what was happening in politics. I know the culture war reignited around this time so maybe that was the watershed moment but after 2014 I did not renew my over 7 years worth of subscriptions. I was put off to magazine media as a whole and I am sad to see 10 years later things have not improved......

The same sort of thing happened in the 80's when I was a teenager. I had a longtime subscription to YM magazine, which when I started reading it as a young teen stood for Young Miss. It was full of makeup and hair tips, light gossip about young celebrities, stuff like that. Mostly innocent. Then suddenly I noticed that on the cover YM no longer stood for Young Miss, it stood for Young & Modern. The content became decidedly edgier. Not nearly as bad as what is being shoved down young people's throats today, but there was a definite uptick in dating advice (including 'safe sex' type advice), the celebrity stories became more salacious, and I was uncomfortable just flipping through a magazine I used to devour cover to cover. 😕

Come on, just because I’m bisexual doesn’t mean I need to be represented through literal stupid things. No one needs to be represented. I’m a bisexual, christian, conservative woman, haven’t seen that on a magazine. Oh wait, it’s all just one sided! They do not care about how you feel. They just want PR points. I also remember Teen Vogue being so popular and “girly” or whatever. Nowadays, it’s so political. This is literally so stupid. I get almost anything left-sided shoved down my throat or people getting mad at me for having “bad” ideas. My ideas are actual, biological truths. Those people can go get their blob they/them selves away from me and stop crying about “no representation!” Look at what they’re all getting, I don’t think they’re the “revolution”. 😂 Teen Vogue needs to stop playing into this stuff. You all are for young kids! We don’t need those teenagers to be learning about transgender stuff and their bias ideas. Redux of the German Youth Movement of a century ago. "It has always been the task of the new generation to provoke changes. But the characteristic feature of the youth movement was that they had neither new ideas nor plans. They called their action the youth movement precisely because they lacked any program which they could use to give a name to their endeavors. In fact they espoused entirely the program of their parents. They did not oppose the trend toward government omnipotence and bureaucratization. Their revolutionary radicalism was nothing but the impudence of the years between boyhood and manhood; it was a phenomenon of a protracted puberty. It was void of any ideological content. The chiefs of the youth movement were mentally unbalanced neurotics.” --von Mises, Ludwig (1945). Bureaucracy

At twelve years old I had ZERO interest in politics. Had Teen Vogue been around, (Vogue was) I would have looked at what cool lip gloss or fashion... and if they had an article about Donny Osmond or Leif Garrett I was in! I used to buy magazines like Tiger Beat when I was that age. Why the left insist on not letting children just be children for as long as they can just makes me ill. The party of grooming and brainwashing propagandists .. ugh.

We do not live in a world where kids can be babies forever and a day. we live in a world where they can be killed going to school and a whole group of adults (conservatives) that won't do a damn thing about it because guns are more important than their lives. Unless they are a fetus then they seem to matter.

I feel like teen Vogue was always kind of sketchy though. There were some articles kissing tips and how to feel sexy, if the demographic is 12 to 17, I feel like that's a bit of a big range for stuff like that. I also found it very predatory with exercise / good healthy dieting tips. Also, speaking of possible pedophiles.

Yeah, teen vogue was never an appropriate resource for kids or teens… but it’s weird to see how it’s switched from “teenage romance/dating tips gossip magazine” to woke politics, both are not good but the change is interesting

I use to read Teen Vogue, and Seventeen, Cosmo Girl back when I was a teenager (2007-2013) and they never really had political news sources. The only thing they had was for elections and voting. Sometimes they had the global warming issue propaganda but that’s it. Sometimes they had really interesting articles as well. But what makes me mad now is that they push this.

It's like, can we just enjoy being teens without being told what to think all the time? Thanks, Brett, for exposing what's happening with Teen Vogue and other media outlets that try to push their agendas on us. We need more people like you who encourage us to think critically and stay true to ourselves. Keep up the awesome work and let's keep supporting each other as we navigate this crazy world together! 💖

This is like a lot of publications, chasing the money. Teens stopped reading a lot through last twenty years, so magazine sales dropped. But you know which generation was? Gen X and older millennials, so they pander to the crowd who will consistantly buy the magazine. Its why Comic book companies drop titles and then reinvent or slightly modify the characters every 10 to 20 years. Money pays the bills and the group who will spend the money, gets the focus.

I never read teen vogue before, But I have heard of them and know what they are. When I was a teenager I read this Christian magazine called “ Brio “ ( I think ). It had inspiring articles, interviews with strong females, and even a faith-based fiction story. A magazine for teen girls should be about self-care, relationship tips, and how to be your best self. Unfortunately, the magazine I read is no longer a thing. As a teen, I was more focused on developing my social skills, and figuring out who I am than I was on fashion or political stuff. 🤷‍♀️

I read "Brio" well! The only article I still remember was the one where they slammed the "Twilight" series for all the right reasons. Instead of leaning towards that "has vampires, must be Satanist" rhetoric, the writer pointed out all the problematic advice the books was giving lonely young women.

There is no way I would look through Teen Vogue today and think my teenage daughter should be influenced by anything or anyone in it's pages. Children don't need to be influenced by adult woke propaganda and it's pathetic to call it a teen magazine when they target the age groups beyond age 20.

Teen vogue when I was one was fashion… trends in fashion… beautiful fashion, funky fashion, lots of girls just like me enjoying, you guessed it… fashion. I seriously can’t remember any other thing about it. Lol I remember prom edition being my favourite. I think they had a section here and there dissecting fashion in films and the fashion of the stars in them. I think there was a question and answer portion, but, mostly… it was about fashion and beauty. It wasn’t political… it was hip pop culture fashion for just girls, I don’t even really remember anything particular for young gentlemen, because… why? It was such a different time. Ooph, I feel old. Seems ages ago.
