A police officer's disturbing encounter with an autistic teen is caught on bodycam. 14-year-old Connor Leible was approached by a police officer who was trained as a drug recognition expert. Connor was playing with a string, a technique called stimming that people with autism use to keep calm. The Buckeye Police Department in Arizona says the officer thought the teen was exhibiting behavior of someone on drugs. InsideEdition.com's Mara Montalbano ( / maramontalbano ) has more. #InsideEdition

I have autism and had an interaction like this... I got lost when walking home and walked up to am officer asking for help. When talking to people I fidget and look all over the place and stumble over my words, like giving three different phone numbers that were not any of my mom’s cellphone. They started badgering me and questioning me about being high. They had a flashlight in my eyes and kept asking “did you take (names drug)?” I finally broke down and started crying and then they threw me in the back of a cop car... they only treated me “nicer” when mom finally arrived and explained the situation.

I have Asperger's. Yeah, I have had some negative cop interactions too but I am a direct communicator so I tell people that what they're doing is hurting me. Never had a cop assume I was on drugs or tackle me even when I was confused and combative about the situation.(they booted my car for no reason...irony, cop calmed me down and then tried to escalate the situation when I calmed down because he wanted to arrest me. Which didn't happen. Long story short. They took the boot off my car and told me to behave myself.)

How? He does know what he's doing. The kid's behavior at the moment made him seem like he was selling drugs. He was trained to do what he did and on top of that He didn't know the kid had autism. So he does know what he's doing.

He saw what he thought was some exhibiting signs of being under the influence of narcotics. The boy moved away from him. The officer grabbed him so he could be cuffed making sure the kid couldn't get away. He pulled away and a struggle began which resulted in very minor injuries. From everything in the video the level of force used was appropriate.

The cop knew very well what he was doing.. It's just that the cops in US, is trained to use excessive violence.. Even if a person had drugs, that is a sick way to handle it by the cops..

This cop is a hero. Connor was about to choke out the entire city with that string. The officer is so brave to beat up a nonthreatening disabled child.

"it's almost impossible to know and understand every disability". You know what's not impossible? Not assaulting someone with no reasonable ground. I have a stutter that can get very severe at times and causes me to behave almost exactly like that when in stressful situations. I feel so bad for this guy and I hope this does not happen to the rest of us. And BTW, how did he not get ANY actions taken against him??
