This is the first song I ever heard from Teena Marie that made me fall in love with her at 9 yrs old 1979, It feels like a soulful fairy tale

I miss her so much. There are times when I still can't believe she's gone. So glad I saw her last Summer at Juneteenth in Southern California. She lives on forever, via her music. I love you Vanilla Child!

what a rare treat! In the 20+ times I've seen Teena over the years, I've only heard her sing Aladdin's Lamp twice. It was a song she didn't seem to sing often. Thank you for posting this video and sharing it with the rest of us. RIP Lady Tee

Lady T stated on the view, people are just people and the soul has no color! Her talent and genius speak for themselves. She was and always will be the title of her final album simply: BEAUTIFUL!

omg.. i was BEYOND Blessed to had, not only, seen Teena perf. many (MANY) times, live. but, to had also, met her.. & while, also, having obviously had made a great impression on her. whenever, i'd attend her intimate concerts.. she'd make sure to come to me, & grab my hand while she sang 'portuguese & love'. she def. remembered me. i 've seen many of my very faves perf.. & while, also, meeting the biggest stars. but Teena was (& still IZ very) "VERY" Special. like, tori amos, Teena was there for every fan of hers. she loved/ appreciated us all, & she was so m*tha f*ckin' real. i miss her every day, rip. queen teen. gone, WAAAY, 2 soon!

@tinapbutler very true statement! that's how it is in Philadelphia and we all loved her and took her on, as our own. She was good at the Robin Hood Dell and at the festival on Broad street

@kinerethblueTV My statement was meant as a compliment. Meanining that Teena had a lot of soul. Sorry that U took the statement so personal but that's just the way Black people talk about White people who can sing their Ass Off!!! No one ever said that she didn't have White fans but I'm from Philly and I attended quite a few of Teena Marie's concerts and she was the only white face there!!! She never recieved the recognition she deserved from her own people but in Philly she belonged 2 us!!

@RaceIsOpen Yes she was very good at the Dell!!!!!! I grew up about 6 blocks away from the Dell and back in the day if you couldn't afford a ticket you could always sit around the Fairmount Park area and listen 2 all the good music!!!!!! That was the good old days!!!!! I really appreciate you agreeing with me because i think that people need 2 comment on what they know!!! And we both know that Teena was truly loved in Philly!!!!!

She was very talented. May someone in her last days shared with her Christ. The drugs, bad health choices, and lack of sleep contributed to her early retirement. Hopefully, she'll be joining other Angels in Heaven.

@vuman40a Rude, excuse me, my opinion is mine just like your opinion is yours, so if u took offense 2 any comment that was made well that's a personal problem, but sense u decided 2 take me there i shall indulge u. U claim 2 know so much about Teena well u should know that she never got the recognition that big she deserved from her own people. Early in her carreer she couldn't even get airplay from the white radio stations. So who's putting race in the mix? Like i said Lady T belonged 2 us!!!
@georgemontgomeryward78644 жыл бұрын
tina plumer I agree and I happened to be white. I was 21 when this album was out and loved listening to her music and dancing in the clubs back in 1980+. She was underrated and like you said the White record producers didn't give her the AirPlay they give other artists. I think had she got a lot more AirPlay on top 40 stations more " white" people would of known her music. I happened to listen to more R&B back then so I get your point. If you saw my record collection you would of thought I was a black brother. She took care of her voice and sounded good even as she got older.
