Teenage Acne: causes & treatment

Acne is a common disorder in young adults. About 80% of teenagers suffer from acne at some point in their adolescent years.
There are 4 primary processes in acne :
1. increased oil secretion: there is increased oil production by the oil secreting ( sebaceous ) glands on the skin during puberty
2. Hypercornification: There is thickening of the lining in the hair follicle-sebaceous gland unit. This leads to obstruction to flow of oil produced by the glands.
3. Bacterial infection: Infection with Cutibacterium acnes is seen in acne.
4. Inflammation: as a result of all the above processes the skin reacts which is called inflammation.
Factors predisposing you to develop acne:
1.Genetic factors
2. hormonal changes
3. stress
There are many treatments available for acne . Choice of treatment depends upon the type of acne and its severity.
Topical agents consist of antibacterial creams, retinoid creams, azelaic acid, benzyl peroxide and cleansers.
Oral medications consist of antibiotics and retinoids.
Remember that acne is a chronic condition. You might require to take treatment for a period of 3-6 months. You have to be regular with therapy in order to achieve improvement.

When Iam in 17, i got acne prone skin, because of hormonal change and have dandruff. And I consulted a dermatologist, then he suggested to use acne control gel, benzyl peroxide, and a cleanser. After I used all this products, I have been a lot of changes in my acne. But, after six months acnes came back as before. So, l think this treatment won't give such a result for permenently clear acne-prone skin.

Acne goes automatically after a age. In some people it disappers after 16 18 and in some people it dissappears after 21 22

Hello ma’am....I am 14...and having a lot of acne on forehead and cheeks......I had amazing skin...but the acne breakouts started about 6 months ago....and increasing continuously....First there were only small bumps......but now they are red and big acne.... Currently I am using....nexleen face wash....salicylic acid gel.....clindamycin gel.....azithromycin gel....and Aha glow moisturiser....is it good at this age?? Will it cure my acne.....??I am worried as it is not healing.... Please answer

Try using cethaphil gentil wash it is very good for your acne. Then try to use a moisturizer that has some type of acid or treatment. I just wanted to help since i am about your age i have acne too but im starting to see improvements😊

Dont use at same time tho. Maybe stop the retina for 1 day, next day evaluate with the glycolic acid. Then maybe wait for another day, then use retina. Its ur skins preference. And USE SUNSCREEN!!!

@@DrAanchalMD I've tried some home remedies such as _Multani mitti_ paste etc in the beginning. Later I tried Benzoyl Peroxide soap + cream. Then I met a Dermatologist, he recommended some creams as well with a vitamin E Facewash. Turns out the cream worked a bit but only if I continue it. At the end/later some days it barely made a difference. Now due to all this Covid, I've shifted to Benzoyl Peroxide treatment this Sept. I hate how nothing works😖
