Usually, one's acne goes away/gets significantly better once you're in your 20's. In the earlier/mid 20th century, people also lost their virginity later, often in their early 20's, when their acne happened to be clearing up. A little correlations/causation fallacy, and an old wive's tale is born.

It's an old wives tale. When my late grandma was a teenager, she went to the doctor and complained about her acne. The doctor told her to get married, because that is how the acne will go away. -.-

When I was in high school, they insisted that excessive acne in teens was caused by fluctuating hormones. So, it's a fair question from an older parent who hasn't kept up on medical knowledge. And the kids having sex were never the ones with acne issues. But I think that's just confusing cause with effect. 😅😂🤣
@IzzyKawaiichi
@IzzyKawaiichi Жыл бұрын
You mean "correlation not causation." Also, my dermatologist straight up told me that acne is caused by testosterone, which is why more intense acne is typically on boys (although there are other factors too).

@C. Lord yes but that isn't the only cause of acne and you can have a top notch diet and still have acne all over your face. Acne is caused by hormones and is also related to genetics and sometimes people are just unlucky. Very bad acne is rarely caused by a bad diet and the people suffering from really bad acne tried everything you listed already, believe me. Dermatologist are right on this one and I think it's nuts you think you know more about this than someone who literally studied for it and works in that field.
@matthewdrennen1710
@matthewdrennen1710 Жыл бұрын
So, is acne NOT caused by fluctuating hormones? Other than genetics, hormonal imbalance seems to be one of the top contributors to acne. If this is not correct, I have learned something new today but it also means that the info I just looked up on various medical websites is also incorrect.

Some people's parents! 🙄 Poor kid! My stepmother was the exact opposite. She couldn't care less. I actually had cystic acne as a teenager and she wouldn't help me do anything about it. I used my allowance to buy 91% rubbing alcohol and witch hazel extract and used some of her oil of Olay moisturizer mixed together in a bottle to try to get my face to act a little normal ( it's STILL oily as all hell!) And I washed morning and night. Did no good. Still had the big pustules everywhere. Even now, at 48 years old, with prescription skin care (not curology. Actual dermatologist visits), I still have problems. My grandmother had the same problem until she passed away at the age of 102 in 2017. She looked like she was in her early 70s. I guess that's one blessing of oily skin.
@jenniferhart559
@jenniferhart559 Жыл бұрын
I had the cystic acne too. The dermatologist put me on oral Accutane, and topical Retin-A at the same time. That was about 18 years ago (I'm also 48); but now that I'm Googling it, it doesn't look like that's recommended at the same time anymore. With Accutane, you have to be on two forms of birth control. It was rough: dry cracking skin that got secondary infection at the lip corners, and low grade nausea all the time. It did the trick though. The cysts went away, and now I have pock mark scars (but I already had those anyway), and oily skin. I'll still get a pimple occasionally, but never deep cystic ones. Hope you and your dermatologist can find something that works!

This myth so prevalent in my country that I was surprised at Ben's surprise. My mom looked at me one day and said "Huh, so, your pimples are going away now, aren't they?.. Interesting". I've seen a pretty decent explanation to this legend: acne _usually_ stops when the teenage phase is over, and the end of this age is also usually when people start to have sex. At least it used be mostly like this, so maybe now, when we're finally admitting everyone is different, it can finally go away.

Heat opens the pores and cold shuts them down.. oil floats on top of water and a hot water compress will draw out the blockages so you can use a tweezer and pull the tips out. Reapply the hot compress after you’ve tweezed and pressed from the outsides gently if red and inflamed. The bigger the red.. the more likely there will be a little nugget like beebee that indicates you’ve cleared the entire blockage. Salt water dries out oily skin.. if it’s big and red once the pore is actively producing plasma and or oil.. salt water will draw the blood out as well as bring what’s deeper to the top.
