I remember being a kid during this era. I never listened to the album because as a kid I didn't know that albums even existed. I just listened to all the singles from the album on the internet

Being born in the late 2000’s I grew up listening to Katy Perry. Though I was never a a HUGE fan, I can say 2 factors led to her career turning out the way it did. 1) she did not evolve. It’s the more common reason & self explanatory. 2) She achieved so much successes in a short amount of time. Ignoring her official debut in 2001. By 2011 she had achieved so much that the average artist has achieved in 6+ years. She had accomplished so much that nothing could top teenage dream. Prism was a success but afterwards there was little to do artistically. Sure she could have done another pop album but society as a whole had shifted from pop to more rap, r&b and alternative sounds.

If anything she devolved. Her music became faceless, it lost all it's personality and the alternative edge that made her such a stand out during One Of The Boys and Teenage Dream.

I remember being in high school during this era of pop music it was defiantly a fun time. Music was so full of life & energetic. Katy Perry, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Kesha, Usher, Tao Cruz, Britney Spears, LMFAO, Adele, Bruno Mars all dominated the pop charts during the early 2010's.

I always wanted her to go with a dark pop album in line with "E.T." It'd work so well with today's sound.

I low-key miss when everyone was competing to see who can be the campiest and most avant garde in fashion, music, aesthetics, performances etc. People were really having fun all while being tacky & cringe lol

She lost touch of herself and that hunger. Even Roar was so bland, dull and faceless compared to any Teenage Dream or One Of The Boys single. It seems to happen a lot after one successful album, then an even bigger follow up. Of course some artists have kept their senses and focus, but following this album Katy lost that distinct and funny alternative edge and soul. I think the success got to her head and she thought we just wanted pop music from her. Not fully understanding that a big part of it was the distinct flavor, humor, energy and personality she used to sprinkle onto her songs

Every five seconds you’re calling this iconic and defining. My God. American KZbinrs are so obsessed with talking about this album. Rihanna’s Loud era was bigger in the UK.
