Once again the actors in the Turtle costumes made cameos in the movie. Michaelangelo- April's star struck neighbor Donatello - the pissed off Foot Soldier with the reddish hair Leonardo - the guy that passes the phone to April at the office Raphael- the only one I'm not sure about. This movie was dedicated to Jim Henson as he passed away on May 16, 1990, from toxic shock syndrome. His team was behind the animatronics doing the mutant characters facial expressions (The Turtles, Splinter, Tokka and Rahzar) and Kevin Clash who voiced Splinter, is a Muppeteer who did Elmo in Sesame Street (he made Elmo into the loveable literally child-like character we all know and love), Clifford on several Muppet properties especially Muppets Tonight and did several of Frank Oz's Muppets as he was unavailable for puppetering (though he did record the voices in advance to guide Clash during filming) for Muppet Treasure Island.

If you thought the Shredder surviving the garbage truck was ridiculous, you should have seen the Shredder from the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. He's survived falling off a building, a water tower landing on top of him, getting his head cut off, an exploding building, a ship sinking to the bottom of the ocean, and being on an ice asteroid deep in space. Despite all that, that is actually my favorite Shredder. His voice was bone chillingly sinister and he was an impressive fighter. It would take the turtles, Splinter, and whomever was helping the turtles out in order to beat the Shredder, and even then, it would still be a near death experience for the turtles. He's literally caused the deaths of trillions (long story) and his fights with the turtles have been enough to leave them with PTSD nightmares. They'll joke with all of their other major enemies, but the Shredder is the one they legit fear.

The shift in tone from the first movie to this one was a result of complaints from angry parents after the first film, parents said it was too violent and was a bad influence on their children , this is why you never see them use their weapons in the sequel and we get the increase in general silliness. It's also why we got the complete departure of Casey Jones.

In my opinion, this movie isn’t really as good as the first. They actually decided to make this sequel more kid friendly because adults didn’t show the first movie to kids as much with swears and violence. Instead we have Michelangelo fighting with combat cold cuts instead of his nunchucks, Vanilla Ice does a ninja rap for no reason, and the turtles get trapped in a net even though Leonardo LITERALLY HAS SWORDS ON HIS BACK! So, yeah. I don’t hate this movie, I’m just think it’s too kid friendly. Either way, it’s still classic.

@bidwell13 Жыл бұрын
April was recast cause Judith Hoag was difficult to work with and mean to the stunt doubles. So she was pretty much gone by the time they finished the first one. The role of Keno was made especially for Ernie Reyes Jr cause he impressed the producers playing Donatellos stunt double and they wanted to give him a good role. They didn’t bring Casey back in this one cause they were trying to create a less violent film for kids cause they got a lot of backlash from parents due to the violence in the first one which if you look at them using weapons they rarely use them. Corey Feldman who voiced Donatello in the first one wasn’t brought back due to his rehab stint. 8:35 technically he could’ve survived depending on what was in the truck. Although originally they were going to have a garbage man find Shredders crushed helmet but the producers wanted it more like the cartoon so they brought him back. Some cameos in the film. The actor that played Michelangelo was the guy that let April into her apartment building, the actor in Leonardo is the guy that tells April that Donny is calling her at work. 15:49 why is he trying to open her door. You can hear the doorknob trying to turn and who let him in the building cause her building has locked entry doors. 25:40 I think the thing about his face is none of his soldiers have seen him without his mask before to see the scars that Splinter left on him after his master was killed. 35:45 Simpsons were created around 1989 I believe the Christmas episode.

Man, parents always complain about viloence in everything and it ruins the media it has! Parents complained about viloence on TV in the 60s unnecessarily censoring slapstick on The Looney Tunes and watering down Tom & Jerry in future series, and parents complain about violence in Turtles. Parents need to take responsabilty and not blame on cartoons and video games all the time! This topic has been satirized in both The Simpsons and South Park (especially Bigger, Longer and Uncut) so people should be aware of how stupid it is! When I become a parent, I won't say to my kids that they can't watch or enjoy stuff like The Looney Tunes and their violent gags but I'll tell them that they shouldn't do what they do and why.

The tone of this film is a little more sillier, kid-friendlier, and more in line with the popular cartoon show than the first film. At this point, Turtle Mania had swept the world, but parents were becoming concerned with the violence kids were being exposed to. For this reason, you'll notice that the Ninja Turtles hardly ever use their weapons during the movie and they don't even beat Super Shredder at the end of the movie, he kills himself with stupidity.

My childhood favorite of the three 90s TMNT movies. They really knew how to pander to an 11 year old TMNT fan's sense of coolness, even if it's a little silly how out-of-the-way they went to not use their weapons. If you want to get even more 90s than this, check out 3 Ninjas, which I thought was the greatest film ever made when I first saw it in 1992. Keno (Ernie Reyes Jr) was also the martial artist / stuntman wearing the Donatello costume in TMNT 1 and 2. Giving him a role outside the costume was supposed to be a career boost, but it didn't really do a lot for him since Hollywood was already suffering from an overabundance of martial arts movies. Mortal Kombat (1995) a few years later was pretty much the capstone of the era of the 80s-90s martial arts craze. This was the first movie where I took note of David Warner, the actor playing the TGRI scientist, although I'd seen him once before in TRON. He was a fun actor. I was sad when he died last year. Lots of range, perfectly capable of a serious role but not above doing a hammy one like this. Before film he did Shakespeare theatrically, which he brought to roles like Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI and Irenicus in Baldur's Gate II.

The original April, Judith Hoag, didn't return because she didn't like the new direction the sequel was going and the director didn't like how vocal she was about thinking that the stunt doubles were mistreated and that their new schedules where unfair, and because of that the director didn't want her to return. Ernie Reyes Jr. (Keno) was Donatello's fight double in the 1st movie and the producers liked him so much that they created the role of Keno just for him and him being the replacement for Casey Jones (which I think sucks because Casey Jones is awesome! Though I still think Ernie was good and he could definitely fight). Tokka and Rahzar were originally gonna be Bebop and Rocksteady from the 80's TMNT cartoon, but the original TMNT comic creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird were against it and therefore these characters were created instead. But Tokka and Rahzar did show up in the cartoon later in season 7. Originally this movie was gonna end in a cliffhanger, they had plans in making the professor an Utrom, an alien that looks like the brain creature Krang and the alien race that in the comics originally created the ooze that mutated the Turtles and Splinter. But it got scrapped because they thought kids would confuse it with Krang, who was well-known from the 80's cartoon and the Utroms were mostly known from the comics at the time (they would later show up in the 2003 TMNT cartoon show that mostly followed the original comics). I still think they should have followed that idea instead because the actual 3rd movie we got was not good at all!

The second movie doesn’t even mention him!! Oh but Judith complained that the first movie was too violent. What BS!!

@@biguy617 she complained it was too violent to the producers and she complained that the stunt performers were being put in danger. The producers thought she she was being an uppity diva and so they never invited her back to reprise her role. Then the producers were told by the toy companies that they had to make a more family friendly sequel because they wanted to make toys and parents were outraged about the violence in the first movie, so they had to tone down the movie violence. From her interview with Variety in 2014: “Hoag says she was never asked to reprise the role, because she had complained to the producers at Golden Harvest about the lengthy six-day shoots and the intense violence added to the action scenes of the New Line Cinema release. “Everybody was beating everybody up,” Hoag says. “I thought the movie suffered because of that. It was something I spoke to the producers about, I think they thought I was too demanding, and moved on.” Hoag says she was also upset by the number of injuries she witnessed onset. “It was a really challenging shoot,” she says. “They had all these stunt people who came in from Hong Kong, who had no union protections. They were getting hurt. As soon as they were injured, they were shipped out of there. It was not the safest set to be on.” So, you are wrong about her not being happy that the sequel was made to be more family friendly and wrong that she left the project.

If humans are exposed to the Ooze they will mutate into a half human half animal based on the last animal there were in contact with.

Depends: that is the reaction to animated version (with Yoshi pre-mutated Splinter) the original effect was random mutation, like Super Shredder or Daredevil.

Don't waste your time watching the 3rd one. Go straight to the movie TMNT (2007). It's CGI animated BUT It is a canonical sequel to this movie that takes place in the same universe and much better than III.

They couldn't even get the rights to Bebop and Rocksteady so they had to make up Tokka and Rahzar.

While rotten tomatoes is at 35% critics, it is 67% user. Critics are useless. They overthink things and try way too hard. I always go by the user ratings. This movie is great, but the only thing I wish would change about this movie is to add this story line to the darker tone of the 1st one. But too many parents complained about the violence. If you notice, they never used their weapons.

After Siskle and Ebert critics have gone downhill [granted, they both were part of TMNT2’s critics]
