I don't think animation being popular with adults has anything to do with streaming. It more likely has to do with the fact that today's adults (people in their 20s-40s), were watching anime as kids/teens, so they've never viewed animation as being "only for kids".

Also, there was more "adult" animation during our formative years coming from the US as well. I'm 41 years old and The Simpsons started airing when I was 7 and King of the Hill and Futurama began when I was in high school. There were even several kids animated shows at that time that raised the bar for the genre (Batman, X-Men, etc.). So while streaming has made it easier to access a lot of stuff, the concept of "adult animation" has been around for Millennials/Gen Z their entire life, as opposed to older generations.

Grace good work on the videos. I do think there will be different reactions from different fans since there has been so many versions with different stories and timelines. For example I grew up watching the 2012-2017 run, which is my favorite, and I think if one liked this run they may not fancy this one since the message of the movie changes soo much, according to the trailers, so I am really eager to see how audiences respond to this movie. Mostly fans.

I’ve been a huge fan of the turtles since the ‘87 series and I am seriously looking forward to seeing Mutant Mayhem in the theaters. I have this feeling I will love it almost as much as I love the 1990 film. Here’s to hoping! Excellent review, Grace! You now have me even more excited and even emotional. Tmnt Is More experimental than spiderverse, I beg to differ; every character from spideman had its own unique animation style , along with every universe. Also Tmnt Is based on a Indie Comic and not a toy line . In the original comics Tmnt shared the same origins as daredevil and there were also other elements taken from the comics.

I saw TMNT when I went to DC last weekend. Theater wasn't too packed but I enjoyed the film nonetheless. The animation was reminiscent of Spiderman and the cast was overall pretty funny, they got a few laughs outta me. Hopefully a sequel does materialize.

They've successfully remade it for a younger generation while appealing to OG fans. Just a great movie overall and beautifully animated. So happy I finally gave it a chance.

My theartre screens are so dark, I'll never watch a dimly lit movie, especially in 3D here again. Heck The little mermaid was almost unwatchable at my theartre but I sat through it. I saw the pirated copies online and they were more lit than what I saw so sadly I'm gonna have to pass on seeing this at theartre...real bummer 😢

I don’t know animation is finally been taken seriously; a lot of studios are now cutting back on animation. Netflix shutdown it’s animation division and they also canceled a lot of their animated projects. One of the projects was a Gorillaz animated movie and Gorillaz is as big as you can get, as far as mainstream music and animation. Warner bros also shutdown Cartoon Network studios; now all Cartoon Network animation is going to handle by Warner animation. Warner also purge a lot of Cartoon Network content from online; now there is no place to view old shows. Warner like Netflix is canceling projects and stated that they are going to only develop establish ip. Their was a Recent article that Paramount is no longer going to develop original animated ip ; instead only invest in establish franchise like tmnt, sponge bob, avatar, and paw patrol. I think a lot of animators also stated that investment in animation is on the decline.

Absolutely taking my 4 yo to this one. He's already enjoyed some TMNT and this and Xmen were both favorites for me as a kid. I love the animation style and that they have them acting like teens without being goofy cartoons - cutting the line between the original comic concept and adding that bit of what came after in a appropriate way.

Dude childhood nostalgia, ninjas 😂 Speaking of dude movies by dude's dude actors 🙂...I was saying, if Gerard Butler keeps bombing, he's gonna wind up on direct to video hell. Not exactly, but hes doing direct to Netflix. Streaming is a different game now, actors can make just as much there as theatrical. Still, its a step down. I would suggest he play a villain role in a blockbuster action franchise, opposite Vin Diesel or The Rock. Get his theatrical momentum back.

I fully support your views about Nolan’s Oppenheimer Grace. I think Nolan has become obsessed about winning an Oscar that he has developed total disregard of what the fans of his TDK and Inception-like blockbuster cinema think about his recent movies. I just wonder if we could see another TDK level film from Nolan in our lifetime!
