Radical dudes! 8BitStereo is finally Revamping this infamous Konami classic, it's the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! This tubular OST is among one of the most well known NES soundtracks for its incredibly catchy nature from the Konami sound team, pretty much all of the main themes are catchy and memorable from the memorable "Title Screen" (which is often theorized Queen's track "Stone Cold Crazy" was an inspiration for) and all the Level & Stage Themes, and just recently official releases of this soundtrack gave us official track titles, while unfortunately very generic, my parenthetical additions for expanding the context of where the track is played is always a pleasure to do. And of course Jun Funahashi's compositions for the majority of this soundtrack are impeccable and his "Title Screen" and "Underwater Scene" tracks are certainly his most beloved from this game, Funahashi is a very underrated composer whose work always deserves praise and shout outs, same for the Arranger and the games Sound Driver provider, Hidenori Maezawa! Now a very interesting note about this Soundtrack is that it wasn't composed purely by Jun Funahashi, Hidenori Maezawa was responsible purely for the games sound programming and didn't compose on this OST, who is often associated as the other composer for this game. Funahashi has confirmed the tracks he composed for and Maezawa's involvement, and has said because its been so long since he worked on this game he does not remember the other composer for the rest of the tracks. However, in the recent Cowabunga Collection that features this title, includes original design documents in Japanese with various names of who were involved, ironically though, there is no pure Sound Designer credit, but a Hagiwara (萩原) is credited for Support under Programming, which the last name is shared with the Konami composer Yoshiyuki Hagiwara, who did actually work with Jun Funahashi on the Mission: Impossible NES OST, however that game is listed as Hagiwara's first Soundtrack he did, so it is currently unknown if he was involved in the TMNT NES game here, his name is put for the other tracks (ironically some of the most well known themes from the game), but is only a Questioned guess and is Unconfirmed. Whoever did compose the remaining tracks I do hope information is discovered one day! :) The rest of the game itself is fairly infamous and well known due to its harsh difficulty and of course the well known episode of AVGN about it, despite its difficulty and wonky programming at times (especially with the jumping in tight spots), the game is absolutely a treat on the eyes Graphically with so many colors and varied environment, and is easy to exploit certain mechanics once you learn about the game and how its programmed, still a challenge but makes the game more manageable. The game does a good job respecting the TMNT IP, even with many of the weird enemy designs, it still feels like a TMNT game, but is often seen as the black sheep of the TMNT NES games due to being a side scrolling platformer than the Beat'em style many are used to. But even with its infamy, the game at the very least is always worth listening to, listening to TMNT soundtracks in the Konami sound font is how I'll always remember these games! Hope y'all enjoy this Revamp of the TMNT NES game, I sadly put it off for awhile due to hoping the official releases would give another name on this OST, but only got the titular "Konami Kukeiha Club" credit. But thanks to all Patreon supporters, much love to you Tier 2 & 3 supporters, glad to still have many of the names still around! Support here if you'd like! :) www.patreon.com/nikotengoku

Thanks for digging up the backstory details! This game was legendary back in the day. Nobody I knew could get past level 3. The pseudo open world aspect of it is very cool and I always wished someone would make another Turtles game with overworld sections like that.

This game has been unjustly bashed left and right, it was awesome to play growing up. No doubt the soundtrack was a big part of the experience. So many great afternoons spent with this cart, the feeling of completing it was unique.

If there was one thing that was GREAT about this game, it was this..the soundtrack. Because it sure as hell wasn't the gameplay itself..this title wasn't quite as putrid as the masses made it out to be, but at best it was a mediocre side-scrolling platformer. It's certainly not unplayable by any means and you CAN get enjoyment out of it even...but again..no one will ever ever confuse this with Super Mario Bros. 3

It's at least the one thing everyone can agree on is radical and badass! Jun Funahashi is one of the many great god composers at Konami, and hopefully someday a confirmation on who did the other tracks will come (likely not Yoshiyuki Hagiwara as speculated on the video but don't like putting "Company Name" Sound Team, if I have some name lead I will run with that).

Love this presentation of the ost. Better than the LRG vinyl release. The one thing I would do is add short 50 to 60 second reprises of Theme 1 to bridge the water level and stage 5 music and Theme 2 to bridge stage 5 and Shredder defeated. The repetition of the themes feels more like the game since they repeated those.

I just beat this game for the first time ever just this last year. I hated the Technodrome so much. Especially when you're going through the last corridor to get to Shredder. Those hovering laser beam guys are no joke. To go through all of that only to find out that the Shredder is such a pushover at the end was kinda disappointing. This game and Castlevania II had to be the easiest final bosses I've had to face in any Nintendo game I've ever played.
