nintendo hates money
@ferociousfeind85384 жыл бұрын
@Lavos that's largely what nintendo does, when they release remakes of the big games and no supplementary content. Consider the diamond market, pumping out propaganda against lab-grown diamonds despite them being hundreds of times cheaper than diamonds dug out of the ground and oftentimes indistinguishable from "real" diamonds anyways. Nintendo sells Mario games, pretty much the same Mario games, along with ports of the exact same games, and every once in a while create an innovative new title. Nintendo's all about making games around their systems (instead of making new systems for their games) and making _fun_ games, but to keep the money coming in, they also harvest seasonal nostalgia. The reason they don't release OSTs and don't allow fan creations is to get you to _want_ to spend so much money on OSTs and anything _Mario_ or _Zelda_ or _Donkey Kong_. The nostalgia factor is over 9000 for anything Nintendo, and that keeps sales super high. Or... something like that. I wish they'd let fan creations happen, especially emulators for which Nintendo literally refuses to offer their own paid service as a substitute. They take down all these free services instead of letting them coexist, or providing an official alternative, and that just kinda really sucks.

Northern Hemispheres is easily one of the best tracks here IMO. Especially combined with the level it plays on. You come out of this tunnel into a frozen land. The music plays quietly and mysteriously as you observe the snow-capped mountains in the background. As you progress through the level, everything ramps up. The music grows ever more intense, all while the snowstorm in the background begins to draw closer to you. Soon, you are lost in the midst of a blizzard, jumping, dodging and shooting from barrels. That level along with the music created such a magical atmosphere. Fantastic game.

Even though David Wise was with Rare when it first formed, this is officially his first real breakthrough. Year after year, technology steadily improves, and it's only evident that an epic soundtrack led up to this.
@lordomacron371910 ай бұрын
not quite when it was first formed but very close David wise was found working in a music shop and was asked to demo a piece of equipment that Rare wanted and asked if it was alright if he payed a few bits of his own creations, they said yes and after they hired him as well as buying the equipment. And Off to a Chicken Shed in rural Warwickshire he went. and that is no Joke he worked for a time (on his own I might add) in a old Chicken shed while working on DKC.

Back in the 90s, I saw this game in the "Nintendo Club". We went to the store and I asked the employee if I can try it first. It was the only way to get an impression (it was much appreciated since the games were expensive). But nowadays such thing would be impossible to ask for. I think with the N64 era, asking for a test play was over or I never bothered to ask. Anyway, when the intro of DKC came on, I listened to the whole thing and that was already a big plus. When I started the game, DK thrown out of his house and just standing there, he suddenly made his "war cry". That was enough "test play". I was just sold. :D And it was obviously no mistake to buy this game.
@acidnaught743 жыл бұрын
Well, no test for me. However, you reminded me of almost the same experience: coming from the NES, and watching the pre E3 images, I just couldn't figure out what the heck was this game about. For those old enough, surely you remember the pictures in the magazines were very dark (I think it was because there was no good technology for screen capturing, and maybe also because of the printing techniques?). All the fuzz was about this new incredible computer rendered graphics "made by the same stations that produced Jurassic Park!!!. Still, what a great creation this game is, and what a masterpiece its soundtrack is!
@eadghe3 жыл бұрын
@@acidnaught74 Yes, I know what you mean and your struggles, although my personal struggle was with the Sega Master System II, which I owned before the SNES (I never owned a NES, but played it in stores and at my friends' house). The package often has given me a wrong impression, but luckily I haven't had much failed decisions...I guess. Well, nowadays I see how the AVGN rates games that I owned and I think to myself, "So the game wasn't hard after all, just very bad." Anway, your quote about Jurassic Park reminded me about Mario 64. To be more specific, about Metal Mario, which used the same technology as they used for the "Terminator 2" movie. At least that's what they have written in the magazine and being in the pre-internet times, with no other sources of information, I flat out believed it and thought that's cool, although it was clunky n such. Cheers!
