This is "THAT" episode which years later became inspiration for The Last Ronin with different circumstances. The crazy part about this episode is that little slimeball managed to defeat an op character like Silver Sentry, he's more worse than the 2012 Shredder.

I think they gave Donnie this episode was to show that he is the glue that keeps them together. Though, they all an important part of the team. That’s what makes them the tmnt, they are stronger together. It also showed how much they relay on each other, mainly Donnie for his intelligence, cause he figures stiff out

It's a good thing it was just him, the others would've cracked under the pressure: Leo and Raph would've been more edgy, Mikey would've been more horrified to have seen his counterpart.

One thing that makes me sad (amongst other things) is Mikey's reaction versus Leo and Raph's to seeing Donnie again. He kept his entire angry attitude the whole episode and the other two were overjoyed to see him. I think Donnie being gone made Mikey feel abandoned because of how close the two of them were as the younger siblings. That plus all the fighting and eventual split up between Leo and Raph I think made Mikey bitter and he gave up on being his normal goofball self and hardened his heart. Then at the end I think he was trying to apologize. He loved his brothers more than anything despite all that happened.

and like Mikey said he's also the levelheaded one. Leo may be the leader due to his ability to make choices that work on the fly and stuff but he's also very emotional and quick to give into them.

This episode was one of the last to air before the S3 finale Exodus when Shredder tries to begin his reign of terror in space anew. In Real World Part 2, Lord Simultaneous says the Time Scepter has a mind of its own, and can sense good and evil. So I think the Time Scepter sent Donnie to the bad future timeline to give the Turtles a sort of advance warning to what Shredder will do if he succeeds in Exodus, raising the stakes and making things much, much worse.

Basically it's saying THIS IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE SHREDDER SUCCEEDS. In that regards it works well. It raises the stakes.

Damn this episode still gets me emotional after all these years. Great moment where Don explains at 22:43 that the whole attack was planned out exactly as it happened. Don had to make the difficult sacrifices in order to make Shredder gloat in his face so he could finish him. Such a great episode and so glad you two enjoyed it ❤

10:50 Without a doubt, this is my favorite moment in the whole TMNT. The gloomy atmosphere, the hope that some hope is left, the emotionless Mikey, the God-forsaken park, the quiet music of sensei...and then the grave. Fantastic sound work. Goosebumps come every time.

This episode makes sense to Donatello, we have never seen before Donatello cared Sometimes he is distant from his brothers because of his inventions But this episode is the first time we see that Donatello was angry and that he cared a lot about his family

Why does Donatello have such a world? I'll explain it now. All the turtles were sent to those dimensions that are related to their previous actions before the appearance of Draco and Daimio's Son. For example, Michelangelo read comics about superheroes, he was brought into the world of superheroes. Rafael was fixing a bike, he was sent to the world of racing. Donatello was discussing past time travel with April and he was sent into the future. I'm sorry if I wrote it with mistakes. English is not my native language.

Imo, this is the best episode of any TMNT show. After you watch the finale 2 episodes of this season i advice you to rewarch this episode and then put 2 and 2 together to understand how exactly Shredder was able to conquer world

I'd prefer the 2012 Karai than this one. The 2012 one is actually really cool, while the other one is a lost cause too blind on honor to realize that she's caused 30 years of suffering to an entire planet.

This was technically last ronin before last ronin was a thing because holy shit this was a dark episode.

I wish someone somewhere would make an AU series based off the TMNT season 3 episode 21. Like what if (AU 1.) Dony was stuck in that world and had to bury his brothers where Master Splinter is and help April repair NEW York. Then adopts an orphan baby (human or mutant turtle). Or maybe (AU 2.) Dony somehow dies and his soul has to find a way through the ghoul's lands. But when he gets back it is 30 years later (then we watch the episode starting at the timeline 2:39) then after defeating the Shredder Dony with his soul powers (that he did not know that he had until he got very sad) brought his brothers back but accidently brought Karai back too. So, when everyone's back is turn (from being very happy to see each other) Karai sneaks to sound the alarm making April and the guys make a run for it in the tunneler. Dony helps April repair New York he also repairs his bond with his brothers (family time) and find a way to stop Karai (be the way Karia is a very strong lady but with the shedder gone the Foot are ether running scared or begging April to let them join her team). Dony is also running out of time, the ghost's land are calling him. Or maybe perhaps what if (AU 3.) after Master Splinter death his soul went looking for his son (Dony) but instead of finding his Dony he found another Dony and brought him back to his AU to try to save his sons and the world then we start at 2:39 (of the episode). Then after defeating the Shredder (and somehow Leo, Raph, & Miky did not die) Master Splinter asks Dony to stay. What will Dony say? Now to all those who are thinking WHY DON'T YOU JUST DRAW A COMIC YOURSELF? Great question the answer is that I have 0% of editing skills and -0% drawing skills. So, whoever want to take one of these ideas and run with it PLEAESE DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what ive always wondered with this ep is if its another dimension and not the future, whatever happened to this worlds donnatello, did their version actually just leave them and ended up dying or is he alive out there somewhere

I don't think Donnie went into another dimension. I think he went into the future, or rather, an alternative future (hence the title "Same As It Never Was"). I think the title's "Never Was" is indicating that the events in this episode hasn't happened *yet* (meaning that it can also be changed). I think there's another episode that implies that this is the case, but I don't want to spoil anything so that's all I'll say.

Chris and Lyra, That was an awesome and fantastic Reaction to one of the best episodes of TMNT 2003. Also, Donatello had to help Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, April O'Neill, Hun, and Baxter Stockman in taking care of the Shredder.
