When TMNT first came out as a comic, I was working in a comic shop and was immediately hooked on it so there is a lot more nostalgia for me with it.

Clearly, this game was made by people who grew up loving turtles. There’s so many references to the tv show, the arcade games, past console games, etc. I usually hate fan-service-y stuff, but this is the right kind of fan service. 😃

If you go to Dotemu's KZbin channel, they have a few videos about making this game. These went back and watched the original series, played the original games in order to get a feel for it. These devs actually cared about the franchise and fans.

Just finished the story mode with "normal" difficulty on the Switch, definitely a very very good game with nostalgic memories coming back. Man, playing the originals back in the early 90s was such a blast. The boss's difficulties are not extremely tough but instead the herds of enemies will give you some serious challenge. I would give the game a 8/10, could be a 9 if the story mode is slightly longer as I would play mostly on single player mode.

@@joshoshea3194 -- No BS. My favorite character was Michaelangelo, second slowest Turtle after Donatello and I had couple of game sessions where I was perfectly fluid. I would know when enemy would start showing on the screen and fling them off the screen. I still remember the point system, 2pts to knockdown tossing including enemy being hit by it and 3 pts for flying them away.

I'm turning 47 this year. TMNT Arcade was one of my favorite games for the original NES. I bought Streets of Rage 4 about a year ago, and I can't stop playing it. This looks like it lives up to the original side scrolling up/down movement game, but with much better graphics, better moves, all while staying true to the classic TMNT storyline. I'm pretty sure I'm getting this for my Switch.

The only thing new in the collection will be the ability to take some of them online and play multiplayer with people.

According to eShop, this game was to be released today June 16. I pre-ordered it yesterday June 15th. When I went to start the game a pop up window came up saying that it has to check with the internet if this game can be played yet. It’s up to the dev when they unlocked it. I see this a lot with 3rd party games but Nintendo usually unlocks midnight your time in my experience. Anyway I got it working about an hour ago… so good

After all of these years, the original 1987 series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still the best. Even the games look SO much better than other iterations of TMNT. I'm so happy that this game exists. I didn't think I'd ever see a TMNT game based on the 1987 series again. I wish someone would make a really good, faithful to the original Masters Of The Universe video game. Every game was either based on the newer shows, or just plain down sucked because of the era and console limitations (like the Atari 2600 version), or wasn't released in the US (like the PS2 version).

Good game, but I’ve experienced what appears to be a game breaking bug on level 8. Playing as Leonardo, part way through the level, no more enemies appear, and nothing happens. Just keep flying through the air doing nothing. 😢

Those issues don’t make me happy about the physical version possibly shipping with those bugs unfixed. It’s a modern problem but one that doesn’t have to exist. Though I’m happy those bugs will at least get fixed in any fashion (like day 1 patch).

Agree really awesome game. Fun to play even more so in co op. Lots of nods to the original arcade game and cartoon. Controls I would say are decent not as tight as SOR4 but you can do combos. What isn’t so great is interaction with the environment. The pot holes even in your videos are not consistent. So when you thought you would fall in one you don’t. This is especially true if your in a middle of a combo and your character magical floats over the pot hole instead of just falling in. This is a minor flaw. Overall I have been having fun from day 1 and definitely worth buying

Great review. I preordered the digital version on Switch and I will also buy the physical Switch version as a collectable. Loved the old TMNT arcade games on the NES/SNES and OG gameboy. The 1987 cartoon was cool back in the day. Loved the first live action movies as well as a kid. Looking forward to finally play this game tomorrow with my kids. I hope the devs will add dlc and new game modes. Would also be cool to play as Shredder as a playable dlc/ingame unlocked character.

(FIXED) I Installed the game on my Switch OLED with 1TB SD Card. Right at the start of the Nintendo or Nickelodeon logo I get a black or white screen. It literally takes a few minutes just to get past the startup of the game. It took me 10 to 15 minutes just to get to the Main Menu. If you pause during gameplay the game freezes and crashes sometimes. After you finish a mission it takes another 10 to 15 minutes to load the cut scene and the game crashes. I reinstalled the game countless times and also moved the game to my internal storage as well with no success. These are major issues I have encountered and I am pissed. Too bad I was very excited to play the game as well. After More Troubleshooting I Figured Out The Issue The Game Has A Bug With The 5GHz Wifi Band.

The standard combo, often shown here, is kind of associated with Karin Kanzuki of Street Fighter fame. I know that initial punch into forward hand thrust, with the other hand before smacking them with the sideways elbow anywhere. It’s like they wanted to get so close but just avoids using the exact animation.

I am experiencing this as well. If you wait a few minutes it will start, but it will be very buggy. If you pause the game sometimes it will freeze and crash. It also freezes at the Nickelodeon logo as well. Also if you finish a level the game will crash after the cut scene. The Game is broken for me. If You Find A Fix Let Me Know.

Pure nostalgia done right. Amazing that they got a number of original voice actors from the cartoon. Going to get my physical copy from Limited Run Games and can't wait for the Cowabunga Collection release as well.

I just never realized Yakko Warner was in the original cartoon, lol. I know he (rob paulsen) has done a lot of stuff, but now Yakko is all I can hear :P

The only complaint I have just from looking at it is that there aren't enough playable characters. I mean like Smash Brothers level amount. Theres so many in the back catalogue to choose from and it would give it amazing replay value and its just something that you don't see in side scrolling beat em ups so I feel it's a missed opportunity. Although I'll still be buying this one on payday 🙂👍

the "super cute anime" style is not quite my thing... and I agree, some kind of retro style filtering would be nice. I was more excited about the TMNT Cowabunga collection... sounds like that thing needs patching... no difficulty settings for arcade games, laggy netcode, some games lack online play that ought to have it, and redone vocal music :(

Also the new title movie remake of the 80s cartoon is superb and all the artists performing the music too, they really couldn't have done anymore without bringing James Avery back from the dead, RIP Uncle Phil.

While in the Mirage comic books, the mutagen _is_ a waste byproduct from the utroms; in the classic cartoon, the mutagen is very much a deliberate product meant to do what it does; so, _not_ "toxic waste".

only thing thar sounds off is casey jones like in the show he sounds dark and edgy And sound like he came from transelvania and he was my favorite edgy character now its just ruined i still got it but the voice bothers me. even tho it said on google its the same voice actor .

For everyone that has this on the OLED Switch i highly suggest you go into the Switch's settings and change the video settings from Vivid to Standard. the difference is night and day. Vivid just looks way too dark and saturated

There are arcades that have cabinets running Steam on PCs internally. No particular reason they couldn't do something like that for this game.
