I just spent 9 days in Pattaya and never experienced any issues. Then again, I wasn't walking down dark alleys after midnight. Overall, it's safe if you are cautious and aware of your surroundings.

I spent a number of years travelling to Thailand.. bought a place in Jomtien 3 years ago and here 3-4 times a year...never an issue until nye this year...had 10k baht stolen on Jomtien beach rd while walking home.... It isn't common but its definitely worse now than it was before... Reported to the police, but no response as of yet....

Its sad about the 80yr old foreigner and the 6 teens who assaulted him. 6 teens do not harmfully rob someone to help a 7th friend pay off a debt. 6 teens wanted to desperately get high. 15yrs old and commit a major crime to HELP a friend in debt.😮

Maybe a new phone scam: I received a call from, what I thought, was someone i knew. I could not answer because I was busy. But right before returning the call, I noticed it was a different phone number. I texted them asking how many phone numbers they had. And the reply was a few random text messages over a few days prior. This messages didn't make sense per my question. Thinking scam-hack, I turned my phone OFF for several minutes, and once I turned it on, I did a restart and deleted my friend & the associated numbers from my directory. Later when I saw my friend, I asked them about the call. They never made a call. So, I figure someone got my number random, dug up some past text from a caller, then used them to contact me on their number. If I meet you, and I trust you, and we exchange contacts...OK. Everyone else can go to hell.

Pattaya is full of CCTV . One ( yourself ) can even monitor it , camera by camera. That's why they sometimes can solve things very quickly.
