We urgently need and must aggressively demand following in 2024 elections from every party. Police reforms: Stop violence/torture of the accused. More no. of trained officers, forensic teams for a faster and fair preliminary investigation. Judicial reforms: More judges/courts for faster disposal of cases/righ to speedy trial. Also easier access to courts. Prison reforms: Separate prisons for undertrials with basic humans rights of clean toilets/bathrooms, decent food, safe & not 200% overcrowded barracks.(Later for convicts too). West is much better in this area if not the best, so will improve our global image too.

It is really important to find a mid way out of these strict laws, as it became very difficult for the judges and police as well, in tackling these cases.

One thing that is often overlooked is that India was very isolated culturally from the rest of the world till 1990 after the British fundamentally damaged it, when the economy finally opened and even then integration with the rest of the world picked up after a decade from that. Well, you can’t really assume that for all tbh. I’ve seen majority of 16/17 y-o (and basically the mid gen z to gen alpha)and I noticed that they all are sexually hyperactive, unlike the “early” gen z who were like, barely such kind of things cuz pocso act came out when the early gen z was just blooming so the sexual feels were kind of under control. But if you see today, I aint even joking its my personal experience, I went to donate blood to a 14 year old minor who had a blood loss due to late abortion. Her partner was the same age and would tell that they were rich spoilt brats. And I have seen such similar cases (a lot of such confessions on reddit tbh) and would actually tell that “maturity” doesn’t comes with age but with experience. You might support your view but in reality, the 16-17 y-o are basically driven by their hormonal changes and nothing else. Every human has felt a need for it really badly, but most don’t give up to it. Most of these minor relationships end up with a breakup after feeling too bored with sex over and over because it is a period where their body desires for it as a part of “mating” which happens in animals. Its a feral instinct. Just because body craves doesn’t means it is healthy at all. Reducing the age of consent will only bring more pedophilia cases. Even Groomimg which is so common in countries where age of consent is 15/16.

I don't think I'm in a position to say anything about the pocso act since we can't actually change the mindset of people today regarding sex and intimacy. But I've seen a lot of relationships going on around me, some even Started during the age of 12 and still continuing. Btw, I am 19 myself. Many of my friends, seniors and classmates were in relationships during the adolescent ages and I've seen them behaving mature and responsible towards their pattern irrespective of their sexes. I've also been subjected to sexual intimacies during late 17th year and took the step to be responsible and accountable for all the things I do, so as a lot many youngsters do today. I have seen the psychology of teenagers as my juniors who have the blood to say they will be loyal and are loyal towards their partners. It's nothing wrong to say that in today's orthodox society, children are not only getting advanced with technology but also with their mental abilities and the nature of understanding stuff quickly. There are exceptional cases I don't want to talk about now, but observing the situation of the society, the Romeo and Juliet law must be implemented and the age of consent, in a ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP must be lowered to 16 or 15 whatever it is required. I don't promote any type of hookup or friends with benefits trend going on today among the adolescents and the parents must be given CLASSES hosted by any organisation, may it be governmental or non governmental to adapt the mindset of accepting what's going on today without being a dictator in their household. In a nutshell, we must trust the youngsters today that they will handle a relationship and of course, we can't deny that the physiology of a body is ready for a sexual reproduction process after the maturity of gonads aka PUBERTY. #Opinion

I get your point, and you are not wrong. But falling out of relationship is also very natural. then what happens? And what about peer pressure, manipulation from the other side? Romeo Juliet law is fine but not reducing of age of consent. Consent doesn't just mean you agree. It means you are taking informed decision. That requires experiencing life, meeting people other than the ones in their immediate surrounding. That's usually not possible for kids. Lets also not forget that America had tried (and is still trying ) to normalize teenage sex, but now these hurt grown ups (teenagers of the past) are fighting gender wars. Blaming the other gender for using and abusing them. Sex education is good. But again the question is, how many of the teenagers will actually follow? How many will stop midway if consent is withdrawn? Again I do agree many of the teenagers are responsible. But I have seen responsible, well intentioned people messing up. But kids, unlike adults, are more likely to get hurt, and suffer long term consequences. Opinion of a person who has studied sexual psychology. worked around kids. Seen them abuse and manipulate each other. And most importantly a person who has kept ears and mind open for people to share their experiences.

My girlfriend is a psychology student and I've read her books how every similar case must be treated as unique and individual. So as it is. Peer pressure is the worst thing. Unfortunately because of these so called teen "relationships" crimes against children in India will be ignored once again under the garb of "modern times". Parents must protect their kids at all costs... let's pledge not to normalise sex before 18 for both girls and boys... education is key here... does a 16 year old have the brains to decide if what they feel of the other human is romantic love or they are being manipulated into thinking it is "love". Indian men/boys are anyway known for their disrespectful behaviour towards women most of the times so I believe age of consent should be kept at 18.
