the GO-GOs were EVERYTHING in the early 80s! they barreled onto the scene in 81 with this & had 3 solid years of killer hits before imploding in late 84-85. (psst... those fun all American girls were playing a part, cuz IRL they tols us later that that they were heavy drug users/addicts... the white stuff was sniffed frequently.. of & they were basically raving nymphos). the stuff that legends are made of! their discography is brilliant. quintessential early-80s. theyve had a hit or 2 during their reunions/regrouping, but they basically burned hot & fast then burned out. but they were MASSIVE during their run & I loved them!(& luckily by time they ran out of steam, I had already fallen for Madonna & no one else really mattered) & lead singer Belinda had a decent solo career in the late 80s for a few years with a handful of hits. then it was back to reunions & reforming the band, lather rinse repeat ..when they were good, they were VERY VERY good... but when they were bad they were (admittedly) awful.. ahh the 80s 💙 #GenX

Belinda Carlisle does have s unique and instantly recognizable voice. Jane Wiedlin is the other one singing. The Go-Go's were the first all girl band to write their own music. They were huge in the eighties.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019- the first and still only all girl band to write/play their own songs to have a #1 album for 6 weeks. They came out just as MTV launched- and it was a match made in heaven. Their manager was also the manager of the Police- huge at the time- the Go Go's were just breaking through... the Police had $6,000 dollars left over from one of their video shoots, so the manager gave it to the girls and they made this- they thought of it as a joke- MTV hadn't started when they filmed this... they have said they were trying to get arrested in the fountain- but no one cared. This song was written by Jane- the one who sings the "Hush my darling' part...she wrote it with a member of the Specials who she had an affair with during their tour of England with the Specials and Madness in 1980....

Forgot to mention, the dark haired one that sang the little solo in the car is Jane Wiedlin and she also did solo work and had a Top 10 hit called "Rush Hour" which is also really good.

It was the first all-female groups to come out during the new wave era in the 1980’s. Belinda Carlisle went on to a solo career, and they fell apart. Do you remember “Heaven is a place on earth” that you reacted to? That’s her. They were a bunch of feel good music, which was a nice change as M-Tv took off. LOVE THEM!! They we so good in concert!

Yes you should listen to more Go-Go's songs as well as Belinda's solo hits even Jane had a few hits the girl singing solo in the car with the dark hair they officially are not a full time band anymore but they do get together from time to time but they were probably the biggest all girl pop group before a spice girls came into view in the 90s😊

Most songs of this quality include a bridge or that extra bit that commonly sounds like a detour. The car is a classic car type that some people own so you really can't use that for a year. In the background are store fronts. You can see how cool it is for video production to have this car. Most films or videos are produced with a script, storyboard, needed props, locations and in this case a vehicle. I don't know if the street needed to be closed for filming. The copy you are seeing looks old because it may be a copy of a copy of the original video. And you are seeing it with HDTV. or computer screen.

The lead singer is Belinda Carlisle. You watched the video of her #1 solo hit "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" already. There was about 7-8 years in between this one and that one, and she lost weight and went for a more glamorous look compared to the Go-Go's more punk rock vibe.

You should also check out the Fun Boy Three version. The lead singer of that band co-wrote this song with the guitarist of the Go Go's (the girl who sang the bridge.) Not as popular worldwide as the Go Go's version, but it went to top 10 in the UK.

This song was co-written by Jane Wiedlin (The Go Go’s) and Terry Hall (The Specials and Fun Boy Three). I personally prefer the Fun Boy Three version. Terry Hall contributed so much to music including Ska, you should take a look at his discography. He is sadly missed! RIP Terry 🕯

Chase, you mentioned The Go-Go's must not be too well known because they "only" have 97,000 subscribers. On KZbin some of these big channels "buy" subscribers in bulk. The numbers are not always what they seem. However, the number of views on this video speaks for itself. Also, these ladies are at least in their mid 60's now. I get that you're pretty young but try not to make assumptions based on KZbin numbers.
