It depends on how close u are I guess!! My daughter had my 1st grandchild 2yrs ago. She wanted nothing but me (mom) during labor & delivery. It was the same for me .. not everyone feels the same!!! I couldn't imagine having my dad in the room. For me, I knew my mo had been there, I knew she went through the pain. The anxiety and the hormones... she was my safe place.

To be precise, Amber was 18 here. She was born in May 1990, and had Leah in November 2008...It's kinda interesting how despite the title, they've always been a little lax on the moms precise age. A few have been as young as 15, but I can't think of any older than 18. Most often, they're either 16 or 17 while pregnant on the show; Amber and Gary are slightly older than most of the others that have been featured.

Man, how did Amber escalate so quickly?! She certainly had PPSD. No one helped her. Gary tortured her for the first few years. I feel bad for her kids. They deserved better.

Yep I think PPD was her baseline problem after the baby and her subsequent drug addiction was her trying to help her mood problems caused by the PPD. I think this, because I went thru the same experience. I had severe PPD after my first baby and no one helped nor diagnosed me and I developed a drug addiction just trying to treat my mood problems. People don't understand how bad it feels. I had rage with my PPD also. It can last for years and years without treatment. In the end I had to go onto a mood stabilizer, an antidepressant, and be put into medical menopause to get my PPD under control.

That's because she actually saw a Certified Nurse Midwife; If I ever am pregnant, I'd try to see one as my provider because they're a lot like OBs, can work in hospitals (unlike most home midwifes) but will maintain some of the traditional midwifery attitudes like how she was more willing to let a patient use a squat bar than most OB/GYNs would be.

My second baby was so smooth along with my other two kids birth he believed in me and when I asked for pain meds he order it right away. My midwife made me suffer with pain for so many hours.

I felt legitimately bad for Amber during the childbirth scene. The way her family and the doc disregarded her pains and well being is absolutely disgusting bedside manner. I say this as a clinician(microbiology lab tech) and a woman. I may be a meager lab clinician and don't see any patients at all but this scene is clearly indicative of the garbage obgyn care we have here in the US.

Here in 2024, and looking back at this episode, Amber had a troubled life. She was a convicted criminal for domestic abuse, and Leah ended up living with Gary, who has been a fantastic dad. Amber has problems with anger ,but let’s hope she sorts her life out. Lovely to see Gary settled.

I know we have the nhs in the uk, which I'm thankful for, but the actual quality of the healthcare in the US seems so much better.. When i had my baby at 21, i was literally just left with him for the day & night on my own. I had to take him into the bathroom when i had a shower, the nurses didnt check on me or offer me any food.. they even let me leave the hospital with half a drip in my arm! Baring in mind i had an 11hour labour, plus epidural and stitches...

Gary currently has full custody of Leah and a second daughter with his wife. Amber recently became engaged to her partner after four months. She has a restraining order against her by her ex-husband.
