Please make videos for the other modes! These are really informative!

Yeah, I've been a bit slack with these, sorry! I'll get back on to it soon, hopefully.

Been using mgb for like 3 years and you just taught me how to use the sweep channel properly :D
@0Fdigital6 жыл бұрын
Ha, I should have tried to explain it. I actually figured it out through trial and error while making the video.

This video was so helpful as I just purchased my arduinoboy pro🤘. Would you happen to know if the channels on mGB are assignable? Say if you have a midi controller to splitter to gameboy and perhaps another midi synth on another channel/splitter and have 1 of the other 3 channels on mGB not be utilized? Thank you if you can help, I’m stumped.
@0Fdigital4 жыл бұрын
I don't think the channels can be changed.

it would be absolutely fantastic if you could make a video going through more of the setup on the OT, what kindof routing did you use and all the stuff to setup. i know this is probably easy for a seasoned OT user, but i've only owned it for a few days and im still struggling to get most of the functionality going... i still have a lot to learn!
@0Fdigital5 жыл бұрын
I may end up doing this one day, but there are a lot of videos out there already for this. I go through it a bit at the beginning of the video; the gameboy's L and R channels are plugged into the A and B inputs. Then, I use a THRU machine for each-the first one assigned to the A input only, and the second assigned to B only. That's really all there is to it, at that point you should start hearing a signal from the device you have plugged in. I used two THRU machines (instead of just one assigned to A B) because I wanted to run just the lead through some effects, and leave everything else untouched.

I was wondering, Do you by chance know if there is a way to switch midi Channels on the synthboy? Example: Instead of 1-5 channels, make it 6-10?
@0Fdigital3 жыл бұрын
I can't see a way to do this, unfortunately.

Are these easy to set up as have one on way my plan is to sequence my gameboy with circuit?
@0Fdigital5 жыл бұрын
It's basically what you see in this video. Plug it in, set the mode, and then set the output channel on your device (in your case, Circuit).
@AJC198115 жыл бұрын
Ok thank can I use the circuit to sequence gameboy thst my plan
@0Fdigital5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it shouldn't be a problem.. but you'll have to sacrifice a synth track.
@AJC198115 жыл бұрын
That’s cool
@AJC198115 жыл бұрын
Ok why would a synth track have to be sacrificed and to be honest my plan is to just sequence gameboy using circuit and record what I’m sequencing from the gameboy via the gameboys headphone socket

Thanks for this tutorial. I just got a Teensyboy Pro and I am finding that while it receives MIDI Messages from my controllers, mGB doesn't output audio... do you have any troubleshooting advice?
@0Fdigital5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, it could be a number of things. What kind of link cable are you using? Have you been able to get any communication going between the Teensyboy and Gameboy?
@strangemobius5 жыл бұрын
@@0Fdigital Thanks for the reply It's a green multi-headed link cable from Tomee. I have tested the Teensyboy MIDI THRU to another device so I can confirm that MIDI should be getting to the destination. This leads me to believe that it is the cable or the GB at fault.
@0Fdigital5 жыл бұрын
@@strangemobius Yeah, seems likely. If you can get hold of a multimeter/continuity tester to test the cable, that's probably the best first step, just to make sure the connections are going through. Otherwise, if it's a fault with the GB itself, I'm not sure where to go from there!

HEY!! Its a year later and I was experience the exact same problem with the exact same cable gameboy link cable. Headaches all day and then i switched the sides of the cable. Its a weird fix but it worked. Hope ya either figured out whats wrong by now or that this helps.

@@RudeeeWit3Es I never would have though of this, but it just worked for me, too! Thanks so much!

Is there a way to save the mGB presets where they are still available after you reboot the gameboy? My presets seem to flush out after reboot and mGB doesn't seem to write a save file.
@0Fdigital4 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, unfortunately. If you use a sequencer that can save MIDI CC parameters though, like the OT, it'll recall them when it plays / reloads a part.
@iamkeebz4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response, but good news! While going through the mGB code in a discord, the error that was keeping presets from saving was found. It works now and I believe they have submitted it to Trash80 to be fixed in the github repo! But we did get it working today.

I'd love to see if the same can be done with teensyboy + LSDJ. I've tried, but I just can't get the setup right.

Is a Game Boy Color required, or will it also work with a Game Boy Pocket?
@0Fdigital4 жыл бұрын
It'll work with the Pocket! The software is made for the original DMG Gameboy so will work on anything up to the GBA SP (not Micro though, sadly).

here's a question about the OT< i was trying to get the control CC knob to change the mGB paramters but when i choose cc01 it says pitchbend on the OT.. is there something i need to c hange to get a raw cc01 signal?
@0Fdigital5 жыл бұрын
You need to set CC1 in MIDI CTRL 1 SETUP to 1 (modwheel). Page 93 of the OT Mk2 manual covers this. By default, the CC2 knob is assigned to modwheel. In this video though, I set CC knobs 1-3 to their respective CCs (ie. 1-modwheel/pulsewidth, 2-breath/envelope, 3-undefined/pitch sweep). The PB and AT controls are hardwired to their respective CC messages and can't be changed to send any other CCs.

See around 5:00 in to see me setting up MIDI CC messages, and also the mGB manual here: github.com/trash80/mGB/blob/master/README.md

Hey man very cool video. I'm planning to buy a teensyboy, but, do you know if it's possible to sync it to a looper with midi?
