Take care of that cold and get well soon. My family has been hit by it as well. I have always loved hatchet fish, but have never seen this particular dwarf species. They look wonderful. Not sure I would trust my angelfish to leave them alone though.

Could you do the Marbled Hatchetfish? I would really like some advice on how to keep them😁

One of my favorite fish is the marbleized hatchet fish! I haven't seen the pygmy hatchet fish, first time here! Thank you for the spot light on it!

I agree, love the Marble Hatchet fish, I feel they are quite hardy also.

Very cool fish! I really like the half-beaks as my favorite. They have a cool way of schooling.

Thanks for the visuals on this fish! I put together my first Iwagumi mountain scape and I want it to look like there are birds flying around the mountain peaks. The hatchet fish looks like it fits the bill. But I needed to see which of the four variations in the trade look the best in a group of ten-ish against my 29 gal aquascape. Pygmies and marbles have simple and elaborate lines (respectively) that can look like flapping wings, but the silvers (from aquarium co-op) says they have a "flash-photography" effect when schooling. Oh, these are the dilemmas I like dealing with! LoL

I cycled my 15 gallon with these guys! I was quite proud of the fact that they didn´t show any signs of ich, despite multiple warnings from different sites. I think the keys to success are clear and low conductivity water, humic substances/tannins and floating plants. And live food. I bought 8 and 5 are still going strong. 2 got stuck behind a filter and 1 was wiped out by an ich that was introduced by a new batch of Cardinal Tetras.
@dimitrinvs3 жыл бұрын
dont mean to sound rude but theres no reason to cycle a tank with live fish anymore, you can buy bottled ammonia for super cheap or just add some fish food to the tank.

Wow, this brings back memories when they use to be one of the favourite fish... Question, do you think that this fish would work well in a shrimp tank - since they are surface dwelling and have a modified upturned mouth - and at most will eat adventurous shrimplets near the surface?
@RachelOLeary6 жыл бұрын
I think they are WAY more suited than many fish to try with shrimp, but don't let them fool you-- they will feed at all levels.

Hello I'm planning on getting some Silver Hatchets for my fish tank. I'd like some advice for how to keep them. If any of you guys know somethings then please enlighten me. I'm planning on getting some female blue gouramis along with them. And maybe glass catfish Would they be ok with each other? I have blood worms currently for my other fishes at another tank. Would they eat that? What surface plants would you recommend? Any tips would be appreciated~

What are some good schooling fish to add in with angelfish? I would LOVE to have small fish like these in my tank but I'm currently working on an angelfish tank (with the exception of my male albino rainbow shark) and I wouldn't put it past my male angel to snack on a smaller fish like that.
@RachelOLeary6 жыл бұрын

Rachel O'leary i always do my research, walk around my local fish shop taking pictures of the names of fish i like. Not sure hubby would appreciate the excuse “this fish needs this and that fish dont, so need a new tank” have 4, 1 fry, 1 quarantine so far lol

What yellow/Orange schooling fish would you recomend for a 60g planted tank? Thanks
@RachelOLeary6 жыл бұрын
gosh, really depends on what else is in it, but one of my favorite orange fish is Trigonostigma espei- the Lambchop Rasbora

Rachel O'leary thanks, I was thinking about these too. In this tank I only have some black neon tetra and 6 bentosi tetras so the yellow Will make a nice contrast

I recently set up a 35 gallon planted tank - My plan is to add Octocinclus and Micro Rasboras. Looking, hopefully that should be sufficient to feed the MIcro Rasboras. The OCto will be feed with algae wafers and cucumbers. Thanks for replying!!!
