Tehachapi Trains at Bealville (Allard)

This clip features a few early morning trains from the Bealville area. I had attempted to hike in towards the Allard Horseshoe, however while doing so, three trains were already in play, and they were the last ones for several hours. So after hiking in a bit and catching these three already in motion, I hiked right back out.

One thing you notice is very distinct "chugging" sound of the prime movers from the GE (neé Wabtec) locomotives.

Why do they run such long trains round these tortuous curves? Wouldn't it be better to run faster shorter trains? Great shots BTW!

How long does a rail road company keep a train engine before they replace it with a new one? noticed that there is still telegraph line along side the rail road. do they still use these for communications or do they use radios now?

+John Moore They use radios now. As far as keeping locomotives around, it varies. 20 years would seem to be a minimum, generally speaking.

So you walked back into that location from the intersection of the tracks and Bealville Road??? There's no driving to that area??? Google street view seems to show a weanie "no trespassing" sign on a pole a ways off the road. How militant or strict can they get out in those locations???

Yes, I did walk back there from the road crossing. Truth be told about Tehachapi, ALL of the land in the area is private land in one form or another. As soon as you step off the road you're on somebody's private land.
