Tehran has some of the most vibrant and colorful bazaars and shopping centers in Iran, which become extremely busy in the weeks leading up to Nowruz as people look to buy gifts, new clothes, food, spices and all manner of items for the Persian New Year. In this video, we take you on a tour of the top places to visit for all your shopping needs before Nowruz.
We start in the historic Grand Bazaar, which has been the beating heart of Tehran shopping for hundreds of years. Its labyrinthine tunnels are packed with over 10 kilometers of shops, stalls and workshops selling everything from precious metals, ceramics and carpets to spices, nuts and even electrical goods. Don’t miss wandering through the many alleyways to soak up the sights, sounds and aromas.
Next up is Tajrish Bazaar, located in Tajrish square in Tehran’s northern district. This traditional bazaar has a wide choice of shops and is known for its spices, traditional confectioneries and nuts. Nearby is the popular Tandis Mall, a modern, three-story shopping center with luxury boutiques, eateries and a state-of-the-art cinema.
In central Tehran, the Palladium Mall is one of the city's premier upscale shopping destinations - spread out over 30,000 square meters, it hosts numerous international brands alongside coffee shops, restaurants and entertainment options. For even more lavish boutiques and designer labels, the Espinas Persian Gulf Complex is not to be missed.
Head west and you will find Tehran's enormous Iran Mall. Covering over one million square feet, it offers shops supplying traditional Iranian handicrafts and luxurious brand alongside amusement parks and museums. Close by is Carousel Complex, housing luxury boutiques, hyperstores, cafes, a food court and child-friendly facilities.
No tour of Tehran’s best shopping opportunities is complete without visiting one of the many modern multi-level megamalls that can be found across the city. Some of the most popular include Tehran's Palladium Mall, over 1 million square feet in size with 320 shops, restaurants, a hotel and cinema. Then there is the cavernous Iran Mall, spanning over 1.5 million square feet in total area with space for over 2,000 stores.
