as a long time commuter cyclist, your advise is spot on and articulate! Cycling is neither a car or a pedestrian.. ride thru the city using the neighbourhood's paths, pcns, small roads, large roads, trails... I commute from the north to either CBD or Clementi. To the CBD is 50% pcn, 40% road, and 10% cutting thru small roads. To Clement 30% pcn, 20% road, 50% rail corridor. The times are comparative to taking public transport (as i got fitter). Also, I stopped worrying about rain.. only ever got caught in heavy rain around 4-5 times in a year. :) Love your channel!

I tried cycling from batok to taiseng using PCN...(I'm older with family so I no longer want to risk it on the road). Honestly Its so bloody long via PCN. And twisting Regarding rain, in Singapore I feel sandals and a spare change of clothes is a lot more practical than waterproof rain coats or capes, cuz with rain jackets you get wet from your own sweat!😂

Fellow cyclist! I cycle so much to and from places with my foldable bike I find myself having to replace the inner tubes regularly. Other than that, cycling has made me more productive and appreciate nature more. One thing I really wish tho is for SG to reduce the number of lanes on major roads (I'm looking at you Geylang and Serangoon), and replace them with bike paths. Imagine being able to cycle there with less stress. Keep up the awesome videos!

Greetings from KL, thanks Vereck for great sharing in this short and concise video, tips for South East Asia. I commute 60km a week, twice a week from Taman Desa to KLCC return trip of 24km, Finding routes is challenging at first, "Cycling is neither a car or a pedestrian." initially use google map adapting routes for walking, motorcycle and bus route ... some back lanes are nice to cycle, no cars, less pollution. After long commute if no shower facilities, a mini towel to sponge off sweat and cool down before changing helps a lot. Agree that cycling and active mobility is the way forward ... good aerobic exercise and mental 'meditation' cheers and looking forward to more videos ..... good to see Vereck in light colour clothes when cycling ... Eventually I fell in love with bike commuting, and during JC I'd bike 11km in 40 mins every wednesday, as CCA went on till 5:30pm and I wanted to avoid the crowd on the MRT. I use a mountain bike. I don't use dynamos because they add rolling resistance and my bike is kinda expensive because the high end drivetrains have very good efficiency. The brakes are also way more powerful and the suspension is really comfortable. I usually just bring clothes to change because it can rain so might as well. The flow does require some speed and it does help to accelerate at full power sometimes. I mostly just ride on the road unless there's a shortcut that's actually faster. I think the most important thing for that is being ready to transition from road to pavement or vice versa smoothly whenever you may need to. Bicycles make it easy to run away from social situations I want to avoid and allows me to avoid having to walk for no reason. I just go the full way because I really like my bike. But that's kind of another reason to get something expensive, it makes you really want to ride it. You'll get on even if you're tired. Just need a good lock. Or gps trackers and boltcutters so you can take it back.

@@Rose_Butterfly98 oh dang that's a nice bike.. do you cycle to work with it ? How do you lock it up ?
@Rose_Butterfly986 күн бұрын
@@letsgoletsgoletsgoletsgoletsgo just lock it to something. Doesn't matter how nice a Polygon is it's considered a shit bike and nobody wants it. Unlike Santa Cruz where even the cheap ones become targets. But nobody really steals bikes in my area. I haven't got a job yet but I basically just locked it to bike stands at school or in the company carpark during internship. Either that or I ride my Siskiu D7 instead. That bike looks like a hypermarket bike even though it was 2k+ when I bought it. But in Singapore just having a lock generally repels thieves. There's a guy who parks his GT MTB at the mrt station with the lock positioned in a way that wouldn't even stop you from just riding it away.

When passing through heartlands on your commute, be weary of old folks, kids and food delivery riders, give way because you are experienced, skillful and more aware of the flow. Don't be disappointed even if they don't bother to look at you to acknowledge, so don't look back in anger. We are cyclists, we are the most free, not even rain could dampen our spirits and we do try to remember all the potholes, those are painful 🤣

I've noticed that you're on a single speed city bike, which will be pretty difficult to ride uphill. Having more gears is basically a must for me, the park connector can have a dastardly 30% slope which is basically impossible to ride on single speed. Got to dismount and push for that, which isn't an issue, but just something to bear in mind.
