So being a union operating engineer I have no idea why operators get paid more than mechanics. I’m impressed every time I watch them work. If the machine don’t run it’s not making money and all I have to do is show up with my lunch box and a fully charged cell phone and these guys are rolling around in gear oil and have to buy thousands in tools and work in all weather. Being an operator I support mechanics making more than me for sure.

Bacon say what they want but that smell is the synthetic oil that wears out and when it wears out it falls off the map in the day we use 85 140 and we had way less failures I remember working on trucks that had 500,000 miles in the rear end oil and probably only been changed one time is the oil did not stink like wore out synthetic oil which only lasts half as much time

Back to the rebuttal of Union mechanic versus Union operator it is true the union mechanic has to buy all the tools and do all the shity work but the contracts for some reason do not we get 35 cents an hour for our to allowance one ranch cost 50 bucks you add it up how long it's going to take to pay for that wrench or broken sockets because the companies do not care or supply have a nice day
