I've seen a few comments here and on Reddit expressing confusion at the character types. So just to clear things up: A 50/50s character has powerful throws or lows which they mix up with mids. Great if you like to get up close and intimidate your opponent by putting them into guessing situations. A Turtle tries to play defensively in order to capitalise on an opponent's mistakes. They prefer to stay in the mid-range and will need good movement to bait whiffs from the opponent, as well as a keen awareness of ranges so they can properly halt their approach. A Poking character relies on a hit and run style to annoy and pressure the opponent with quick, fast attacks. There is a strong emphasis on knowing frame data so you know when you can continue your offense or sidestep after a blocked poke. A Counter Hit Baiter emphasises powerful options that become available when the character’s moves connect on counter, which means they can attack the opponent with low risk and potentially high reward. As a trade off they often have weaker low attacks and so struggle to make comebacks, or the lows are very unsafe and require a big commitment. Rushdown is good at staying in an opponent’s face and bullying them with constant frame traps and the threat of delayable strings. Recommended if you want to be aggressive and like to have a monopoly on number of button presses. An Evasive character is good at disrespecting a character’s frame advantage and hitboxes by having stances or moves with very small hurtboxes. They work best against aggressive characters, and when used properly, can make the opponent lose confidence in their approach. Long Reach characters can control the mid range with their huge jab range. This lends them well to a defensive playstyle. Unorthodox characters are the “weird” ones. They have unconventional attack options designed to confuse their opponent, and generally require specific match-up knowledge to beat. A Mishima is defined by EWGF (arguably the best move in the game; a just-frame launcher with a huge range of uses), mix ups from a wavedash used to close space quickly, and strong jab hit confirms (1,1,2). These are powerful tools, and form the backbone of their playstyle, but take skill and practice to use effectively. Versatile characters can do it all. The expense of being a jack of all trades however is that they are generally master of none. Hope that helps! Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

+That Blasted Salami This list explains characters a bit better (even though I would omit the 'Mishima' one since all of them seem to vary as far as play style) to new players and gives them a thinking way of how they can probably play their character. I think how I would explain a character to someone would be a bit more complicated since I have been with the franchise since Tekken 1.

solid Snake I'm just wondering why classic characters like Anna, Julia, Armor King, Lei and Ganryu didn't make the cut when all of these characters could have been easily modified to function into Tekken 7's gaming style. These characters could have simply just been given tail spin mechanics. Even my main, Zafina, was the only one who didn't make it to tekken 7 from the Tekken 6 New Characters Cluster. Zafina could have just taken Claudio's story arc. It makes much more sense that way and it's better imo since Claudio is a half-assed pretty boy character. All of these previous Tekken characters could have fit so well into the storyline of Tekken 7 but the game fell short of staying true to its originality and the niche it has made for itself back when Tekken 3 came out. Man, those were the days.

Very solid video mate. I'm so glad you didn't mention character tiers or anything like that as I've found too many games where my choice gets clouded by S class or whatever. If he has been permanently removed, is there a similar character you might recommend?
@ThatBlastedSalami7 жыл бұрын
Yes we intentionally dropped tier listings because they're so reductive. Tekken 7 is such a balanced game anyway, you'll get the best results by playing who you enjoy. Lei is sadly MIA. If you enjoy a freestyle, stance heavy character I would recommend Xiaoyu or Yoshimitsu.

I have been playing Tekken since like 2006 when I was just 4 years old and throughout the years I have mastered 9 characters only 2 basics: Asuka and Claudio 4 intermediates: Paul, Jin, Law and Eddy And 3 advanceds: Devil Jin, Lee and Hwoarang I mainly play as Jin since he is the first character I ever played as and mastered back in Tekken 3 as well as his Devil version and Hwoarang

Are you gonna do an update for Eliza? Also great video been playing all my life and thus video explained why I like the characters I do lol

Cheers! Unfortunately Eliza wasn't available when this was made, but she'll have her own character breakdown.

I feel that some characters are so high level they go beyond advanced, like master level. Yoshi is mos def a master level character and so is mokujin (even though he is not in Tekken 7).
@ThatBlastedSalami7 жыл бұрын
I agree, but for convenience's sake we stuck to 3 difficulty levels. Ease of use is quite subjective to a degree as well.

Terrelle Cheers yoshimistu is artistic self expression. that's way beyond advanced lol

Imagine mastering 90% of all the characters in Tekken 6 and you play Local with your friends and pick mokujin, every round they would be facing a different character

Somewhat unrelated but: One time when I was playing online with my Eddy, I got matched up with a Yoshi. Both rounds didnt get past 20 seconds cuz Yoshi just decided to commit seppuku
@kurowkarasu4 жыл бұрын
It's weird cuz Yoshi has lots of tools to deal with Eddy, especially with flying, mantis stance and flash.
