I like it! Immediate examples of scenarios you’re explaining to us. Diaphone does something similar during replay reviews, but instead voices over an example recorded from training mode of a counter/alternate option. That’s quite a bit of effort, though, so I think that’s just something you can do if you really want to step things up a notch and have time. Love your content! Looking forward to more GBVSR!

I play Shaheen and know all my frame date, punishes, launchers, counter hits, and mix ups. One thing i have never understood and have found hard to come across while learning Tekken is how the hell to use these options. Knowing all that about a character is useless if you dont know what poke to use when or how to condition an opponent, so thank you for this. I'm going to start working on this in some quick matches and against friends

Thank you for this video! Noob question: If a regular jab gives you plus frames, how come it won’t be an infinite loop? Easy to duck perhaps?
@Chris_F8 ай бұрын
First of all: I don’t believe in noob questions. We all start somewhere so always feel free to ask! Even though jabs are +1, try can be side stepped, ducked, power crushed (armor) and counter parried. There are a lot of defensive choices available in Tekken 8 which is why I’m breaking this series up into episodes. Thanks for watching!
@dabblesonguitar67528 ай бұрын
@@Chris_F Good to know! This video really helps. Coming from sf6, the foundation tutorials are hard to find. Arcade mode is okay, but these kind of videos help get ppl started to play online 👍
@Chris_F8 ай бұрын
@dabblesonguitar6752 thank you! Hopefully I’ll have more soon
@Diandredofus7 ай бұрын
For an infinite loop, you would need a move that gives you as much, or more, + frames than the move itself lasts. That would ensure the opponent is still under blockstun as the second jab hits. Obviously, there's no 10f jab that's gonna give you +10. A jab being +1 only ensures your next jab will beat your opponent's jab, because it'll be 1 frame faster. If they decide to duck, you'll still hit nothing, because ducking only takes one frame and your jab is effectively a 9 frame move here since you have a 1 frame advantage.

I Dont think Dragove is beginner character because his key moves are based on triple forward moves. Paul and shaheen are best character for new players.
@Chris_F8 ай бұрын
I think Paul and shaheen are also great beginner characters! In think drag is good for new players this time because his D+2 is a high crush and he has no hop kick so it forces you to play more carefully when you are defending

My question is how can you maintain the dominance in poking or pressuring your opponent?

@bartekkko8 ай бұрын
Every other tutorial on Tekken is "Here's tekken, the buttons represent limbs, and you should generally stand block". Got really high expectations for yours, so it's good that we're starting with something actually meaningful. I have a question: at 3:41 and 4:26 you show beating the opponent using high attacks with other high attacks. Why do that instead of going for a crouching button that would beat the high? Doesn't everyone have a generic crouching launcher that would be very high reward in that situation?
@Chris_F8 ай бұрын
Good question! I tried to keep this as general as possible; not every character has a high-crushing low that is -14 or less on block (-15 or more usually means you’re getting launch punished). Also, doing a jab is the lowest risk option and builds good habits for beginners IMO
@ardidsonriente22238 ай бұрын
Low launchers also tend to have slower startups, wich make them risky so use against fast recovery highs.

@fragr33f742 ай бұрын
But, what if I just wanna spam my flashy unsafe moves and get launched myself? 😅
@haughtygarbage58488 ай бұрын
Im wondering, you do Drag's df1 and its -2, and you say that to beat people who jab after this you complete the string. Whats going on in the frame data that makes the string after df1 come out so fast to beat a 10f jab? Is recovery being cancelled, such that the -2 is no longer true?
@Chris_F8 ай бұрын
I’m not sure how it works exactly from a technical/game engine perspective, but there is a small enough gap that lets your opponent push buttons but not big enough of a gap for them to beat you out of the 2nd part of the string.
@janzy19807 ай бұрын
Excellent video. Very causal player here, I've been trying to understand how to use frame traps for a while but could never quite understand how to go about it. This is video is the one that made it click by starting from the basic jab. Feels like I unlocked a whole new level of the game. Thank you!
@Jubjub537 ай бұрын
I think what's great about this but maybe not talked about explicitly is how the situations presented necessitates new tools from the move list. Thinking of how to solve common situations you find yourself in with the tools of your character is much more effective than trying to memorize your entire move list. Great video thanks!
@MitWalker1238 ай бұрын
just one question about this: when u do mid string are 22 frames lenght of the whole string or is that the frames for second attack in string?
@Chris_F8 ай бұрын
That’s a good question I think it’s the length of the whole string. I’ll test it when I have a chance but If I don’t get back to you that means I was right!

So should i be thinking of offense more strictly as trying to get whatever damage i can, with launchers and combos being for those special exceptions where you know a high is coming or they do a very punishable move? I havent learned any combos yet but i struggle with understanding where each tool should be used. I almost never use launchers because they are so slow and punishing that i dont want to throw out say full crouch df3+4 on raven and get kicked in the face
@Chris_F3 ай бұрын
Hard to say, really. There are def safe launchers (like Paul d/f+2) that you can throw out almost whenever . It really depends on the situation and both characters

This is a very solid gameplay loop, any character can utilize this. The issue arises with your opponent though. Low skill players don’t read and respect your options to this degree. This loop requires your opponent to understand it too.

What i’ve noticed if i trap someone the same way twice, they usually respond to it by the third repeat, so i actually just go for my best launcher on the third time after conditioning them to duck grabs, usually works the first time unless they just arent actually adapting
