See, Noctis, I was neutral towards. Swordfighter definitely annoyed me a bit...but the most overdesigned thing he did, relating to his fighting style, was warp strike. He was still, by design, grounded. It was annoying, sure, but at least he wasn't using elements, summoning pets, and using summons for his rage art. Clive literally became "I will play JRPG" in Tekken.

I'm just shocked that people are this upset, Clive is an awesome character and FFXVII is a fantastic game. I also wanted Tifa and after they released Heihachi I said it's either Tifa or Clive next due to the recency of FFVII and FFXVI paired with the fact that Heihachi tied up the current story arc and we have no guests. No matter who they picked I was gonna be happy with it. It's just a shame because with FFVII not having any more games added to it I feel Tifa has missed her last chance to be added to the roster, as I don't see FFVII being 'relevant' enough going forward to have her join in Tekken 9, cuz they prolly ain't doing more than one guest per franchise.

He was designed before ff16 was even announced and is the only one who they had to build and code specifically in unreal engine for as he was completely different to the usual characters. There's comparison videos of final fantasy 16 clive moves with tekken 8 clive and its literally identical. The devs even played final fantasy before they made him that's how accurate they wanted him to be. He's arguably the most complex designed ever seen in tekken history. The game is amazing. a lot of people hate it since its "a babies first DMC" game and not another sit around and take turns for 30 minutes and watch numbers go down game (i love my turn based JRPGs btw) and people refuse to accept that FF has changed. but if you get past that the game is such a great time. I played it when it released on steam a few months ago since i was home with a back injury and i finished it 100% in a week since i was stuck home anyways. that game legit brought me to tears at the end.

As someone who really enjoyed FFXVI and also loved Clive, I'm personally very happy to see him here. Dude looks INSANE and it seems that his moveset is very faithful to his various fighting styles in FFXVI. Also, Pheonix Gate looks phenomenal, and the stage tranisition being the "Find the Flame" moment straight from the game made me audibly scream. I can understand some people being disappointed, but man this just makes me very excited to return to tekken since I haven't actively played the game in a while (also makes me want to play FFXVI again)

Yeah I strongly agree, I admit I assumed Clive’s moveset would mostly be made up of Ifrit and Phoenix moves but his inclusion here went above and beyond, even including Leviathan the DLC Eikon as part of his moveset. It’s extraordinarily cool and I’m gonna definitely try to get him. :)

I find it insane how this is so well made, knowing and had played 16. It’s like I’m seeing 16 in this, no difference to the OG. It’s kind of sad to see negativity towards this, and some deeper speculation as to why Tifa didn’t happen, which I conclude that it’s not that deep as Noctis happened when it’s known Harada and Tabata (director of 15) are friends, it’s the same for Yoshi-P (producer of 16) as Clive happened. Clive Rosfield is an amazing protagonist of 16, everyone should try to play 16 for you to see how amazing and fun it is!
