They were both from the same Asian country and were able to each speak a ton of languages and would frequently speak different languages to each other just because it was funny to watch people get confused. Leeroy and Lili were invited and in the party they were talking about business, Law watch them and wants to be part of the conversation entering in a cutting way saying "oh talking about rich things, let me be part of it", both Leeroy and "Daddy's little girl" stop talking for a few seconds before continue the conversation pretending nothing happened. Law feels rejected and leave them alone

Victor's Subtitles against Law and Reina are inaccurate... He says: "I hope you're not just one of those 'weak-spirited (weak-minded) incompetents'." Thing is in his Subtitles, "Common Knowledge" can be replaced by "Notoriety". He's basically saying "Being known doesn't mean you're good." Otherwise, I don't know: I just felt that peculiar subtitle choice didn't strike a good chord in me!

Only English audio is transposed word-for-word, other languages' subs are adapted with varying degrees of accuracy, some passable others borderline misleading. Guess budget for accurate translations wasn't even allocated, believing Google Translate could suffice 😏

After having learned Japanese for over a year now, even Japanese-speaking fighters have their subtitles mistranslated. For instance, the classic "I'll teach you to fear my wrath" is not what D. Jin really says. He says something like "I'll show you fear" or if I had to embellish it a little "I'l teach you the meaning of fear." 教える means both teach and show. So this has been going on for years, probably as far back as Tekken's conception. I wonder how the team goes about their localization?

I imagine it's intentional to get across the vibe of the characters a bit more clearly in localisation, rather than just 'bad translation'. Nuances in languages aren't exactly always clear when translating, especially with such a variety of them like Tekken has. It could also be that what's being done is the Japanese script/subs are what's been localised, so it's a sort of double-up of translation from one language to Japanese then to English. They're not exactly mistranslations as much as they are localisations. Victor, for example, seems a lot ruder in his subtitles than what he's saying French based on my rusty knowledge, but that's probably done to get across that Victor is MEANT to be quite a curt, sharp-tongued guy who's dismissive of most people.

Yoshimitsu rescued Bryan from the Mishima Zaibatsu, but after being healed, Bryan killed all the people who saved him, including some members of Yoshimitsu's Meiji clan. There is more to it, I recommend a video called the Insane Lore of Tekken for more info. For instance Bryan is actually a cyborg lmao

Why are the French translations always slightly skewed in translation?(´-∀-`; ) Like "Have you prepared an excuse for when you lose?" is written as "What's your excuse for losing this time?" [0:36] They might say something similar but the connotation is _pretty_ different- f(^ー^;

My guess is that the original script is written in Japanese. So there are two translations: one from Japanese to French, and one from Japanese to English. The teams doing these are likely different, hence the differences.
