Akainu would probably only know how to be a drill sergeant. Yes useful but not as a lone trainer. Garp can alone ve both a caring father figure and a drill sergeant

Aokiji enlisted at age 19 and was a Vice Admiral at Ohara at age 22. So Koby beat Aokiji's 3 year record with a 2 year run from being a Cabin Boy.

TBH I think the thing to remember about Vice Admirals, and probably even the Rear Admirals, is that the higher up the ranks you go, it's harder to gain promotion not just due to power gaps, but just a lack of space. They have 3 Admirals already, no slots need to be filled, so the next couple of ranks below them could be at least partly filled with REALLY strong dudes who can't move up simply because people like Kizaru and Fujitora exist. In short, Vice and Rear admirals could potentially have power power ranging from "I just got promoted from Commodore" all the way up to straight up admiral level.

Well not admiral level, except for Garp and may be Tsuru, because they had to get help from the outside world to get new admirals, but there were two viceadmirals that were considered for the admiral position, I think they were brown pig and pink rabbit

@@Yungyermy Good point, lemme take a couple guesses. Fujitora was brought in on recommendation of the fleet admiral himself, so that might be the answer there, as for Greenbull, I personally don't know enough about him to say anything as far a recommendations. Strength is only part of the promotion process. For instance, if Kuzan was a Vice Admiral while Akainu was Fleet Admiral, I doubt he'd get promoted almost regardless of strength, simply due to his views not fully meshing with his bosses views. Also could be some cases like Garp had back in the day where they don't want desk work. My other guess is that it's based on the specific powers they have, not just the inherent strength of said powers. The current trio seems very...apprehension-based. We have Kizaru, the ultimate pursuit specialist, Fujitora, a guy who can just drop gravity wells upon a whim to slow or incapacitate foes, and Greenbull, who I've heard is at least rumored to have a plant/tree-based fruit(?), so entanglement galore. This, to me, jives with Akainu's sense of justice. I think a lotta people think Akainu just automatically sees red and wishes death upon pirates on sight, but if his thing is absolute justice, he probably wants to bring in some big names and make examples of them, kinda like Ace, but more regularly. Just my thoughts on it.

Straw Plays TV the theory is that Drake is either so deep under cover with sword that even Kizaru, an admiral, didn’t know that he was really still a marine, thus considered him and enemy and kicked him. Or 2. That kizaru knew and kicked him hard to hurt him but not kill him just so drake could keep up the act of being a pirate, and to avoid questions like “why didn’t you get injured at sabaody when everyone else got their asses kicked?” And shit like that

It's amazing but if someone outspeeds her as shown by Luffy in Marineford then she's more or less helpless. The devil fruit ability also completely takes away her ability to use her hands for holding a weapon, or haki punches, or anything in that nature. She has to choose to use her Devil Fruit or do something with her hands. She would be absolutely amazing support in a fight though though.

Dylan Infinity it’s never stated anywhere that she can’t use other weapons in her hand aside from when she uses that cage thing since it’s coming from her hands. When she used devil fruit against that one pirate, he went through her arm but she definitely would be good support.

So he may helped them come up with a cover up during the unknown events of Reverie.

I am pretty convinced Coby isn't leading the charge against Boa, and that whoever is will get wiped out, and that Coby will get appraised highly for salvaging the fleet into a successful retreat or something. I do think Everyone, marines and fanbase underestimate Boa to much. I feel like we have never seen her fight for a reason, and we only underestimate her because she was kind of used as a stepping stone for Luffy's growth, in a narrative sense. I will not be surprised if she can use high level conquerors and high level armament OR Observation, because why would she have used them in marineford? she HATES the world government after all.

I think the only real naval battle in the series where it was somewhat like a real naval battle was when Bon Clay and Hina engaged eachother at Alabasta. Nether one was extremely power in the sense they can take a ship out single handedly, and though he was out gunned, his crew was manning the guns at point blank and taking boarding actions. Even the faking that he was Luffy was kind of reminiscent of real pirates fly false flags and then revealing themselves at the last min. The real issue with Naval battles at this point is that the power scaling is just too high for them to be effective or threaten the main cast. It would be neat that maybe for the battle of Wano you had Orochi intercept the rebels on their way to the fire festival and have a big battle (naval) in the sea, but other then scenery back drop, I dont see real naval battles happening.

You could say perhaps the current ranks of the marines are a tradition instead of representative of specific roles. Possibly a long time again it was consistent with the rl counterparts (when it wasn't the WORLD government), but has changed just to a traditional title of each rank

Saving 2 Kings and 2 Princesses and leading the rescue of a 3rd Princess is how he went from Captain to Rear Admiral Also note his main trainer is Garp who was training Luffy,Ace and later Sabo to be super soilders for way longer then Coby and Helimpo with goal of making them Admiral or Fleet Admiral one day Note, Jimbe was the Helmsman of the Ennis Lobby and Marineford and using the currents already to optimize steering and maneuvering

Lord of Creativity, there is always room to grow for characters. The same can be said for all of us in general. That being said, I agree with your assessment based on the current information we have. We will just need to wait and see, but while I have heard individuals claim that Coby will easily win I cannot see that happening on his own. I rather like his character, but I think it is likely he will have assistance in this battle. If the marines are not going to get involved in Wano where their attention should probably be focused, then they should have forces to spare for the warlords.

I would like more strategic naval battles, but I feel it would fit more in a seinen show. At least I've seen strategic battles like that, with fleets/squadrons, more in seinen than shounen. Correct me if I am wrong, specially with read recommendations if possible, I would be glad lol

Well you know, Coby is essentially following Luffy's progression if he was a Marine. Whatever made Coby jump ranks so quickly is most definitely linked to Luffy's adventures, which made his bounty jump just as fast. So, since Luffy's bounty jumped so much after Totland, it makes sense that Coby would become admiral rank around the same time (because they're mirrors in a sense). After Wano, both Luffy and Coby will probably become even more notorious. Think about it, he joined the marines because of Luffy, Garp even trained him. The Rocky Port incident, which probably landed Coby that medal and is a reason why he's admiral rank now, was directly linked to Law, and he's allied with Luffy. In the end we're probably gonna come full circle when Luffy and Coby, probably with the same amount of notoriety, meet up again to (hopefully) join forces against the WG. I'm pretty sure you could've made an entire Marine themed One Piece anime about Coby and his adventures, and it would look a lot like Luffy's journey with The Straw Hats. Coby and Luffy even got their right hand man at the same place. I bet you we'll have a number of marines involved with Coby, that matches the personalities/roles/goals of the straw hats. Coby, Helmeppo, Hina, Smoker, Tashigi, and probably even Isuka as well are already comparable to The Strawhat Crew in a way.

I have heard that there is an attitude involved in anime that tends to regard characters as weak if they are defeated easily even if they are facing someone strong. I have seen people say that Luffy and his crew members are weak because they are not able to defeat the admirals and the Yonko yet. I think the same thing is happening here as well. Is Luffy weaker then the aforementioned individuals at this time? Yes, but that does not make him weak in general. It means that he has to continue growing and he is certainly putting in work in that regard. Same with Bastille, he lost to Sabo yes but Sabo seems to be a rather skilled and strong combatant even without Ace's fruit.
