Tekla Structures 2023 - Drawing Property Pane

In Tekla Structures 2023, drawings have been updated with a brand new property pane. Quickly view and change properties of all types of drawing objects, and visually preview the content of things like Marks to more easily understand what you are creating. The property pane makes it easier for new users as well by matching the interface from the model side.

What is great about it is that you can bring your "favorite" attributes up the list. No need to click dozen of clicks anymore every time you need to change specific attribute 👍

Hey Dave. I think a great follow up video for this would be working with the Paste "Paint brush" and the new "Set as Default" options in the dimensions properties pane. We have a lot of users here that get confused with the proposed usage of these options and what the differences between the two... Is there a video that shows how to turn on the "Set as Default" button and shows how the two work?

This feature sucks. 1. If different object has been selected you can’t modified its properties, so you have to pick same type of object one by one before you can modified an object. Unlike the old system where you can set your desired modification for example on the dimension windows and you can highlight everything, hit modified and it will just change the dimension properties 2. The changes on the properties you made will be gone if you pick another object. Unlike the old system you change the object properties and it will be there unless you close the property windows. 3. Once you hit modify, it will become the default setting. So for example your doing your normal dimensioning and needed a dimension tag, once you input the tag and hit modify, the next time you do your dimension it will have the tag as well. The only thing that is great on this update is now you can see what the modification looks like before modifying it. Nonetheless this is more harder to use and unproductive. Give us choice to use the old system until you ironed out this feature.

absolutly right. I HATE this feature in drawings. It ruins everything, especially when you move view to another drawing. You can just lose properties or they can change by themselves unpreditible. I use TS from 20.1 and this version is a mess.

Yup, totally agree. This is terrible. As drafters, we need to push out jobs quick. This new way of doing things in the Property Pane is time consuming to say the least. As the old saying goes, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

I think that there are some really good features with this new drawing property pane and since we'll get more familiar with this it'll be useful in the same way as the new modeling property pane. But you should really let us use the old dialog box properties in the same way you let us use the dialog box for beam, weld and bolt properties in the modeling (using Ctrl + double left click mouse). There are times that we edit something and we have to check something in order to finalise it, e.g. adding a text. With this new drawing pane if we won't hit Enter we'll lose what we have modified. And I think that's why you have added Copy to clipboard option on SP9. But it is not the same!! Please don't deny us the ability to use the old drawing properties!!

What if I want to hide the value of the dimension? I could do that in the old Tekla versions.

It is a checkbox right above the 'tags' section in the dimension properties. "Show numeric value". Clear the checkbox to hide the dimension value.

It looks better only at first glance, but this new "quick-view" menu is really inconvinient. Now in Tekla 2023 it takes much more time to make the drawings because of it. And I can't find how to change it like it was on previous 2021 version. I am very upset about this. I hope that all new updates will be tested on real users first, because I don't know who would like this new menu.

For now, you can access them through the quicklaunch in the upper right of your screen. But there is no guarantee how long that will still be available.

This may have been a great update for 3D modeling but shouldn’t be considered a blanket update for everything. 2D detailing was hugely affected by this and not in the way you guys had hoped. It has added so much time to the detailing process. Such a frustrating disruption to the detailing workflow.

I absolutely hate this garbage pane! Is there any way to go back to the old style?? I hate having to select same type objects to modify instead of select a group and with one modify from the corresponding window only those items are changed

For now, you can still access some of the old properties through the quick launch, but they will likely be removed at some point. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish with modifying, you can use the arrow in the top left of the property pane to choose a specific type to update, perhaps that helps?

True enough but unfortunately you now need 60000 gigs of ram to use these panes efficiently. Massive performance drain slowing down the whole process. @@TrimbleTeklaDave

please make tekla structures faster for drawings! (it realy needs a massive performance boost) it disrupts the workflow tremendously . The speed for 3D Modelling is fine.

personally, i hate it, I dont like it in model space either. As someone who earns a living using Tekla, Ive found these so called innovations have slowed my workflow not improved it. Does Trimble actually consult steel detailers before making these dramatic changes. who thought it was an improvement to remove colour from ribbon icons. Coloured icons get picked up far quicker than black and white ones. Ive been using V2020 onwards for 3 years and still find myself looking for icons.

This is by far the worst update they have done. Bring back the old layout. It's such a mess trying to update different parts/notes. I'm about to go back to version 20 but I've already started multiple projects using 2023. BRING BACK THE OLD POP UP BOXES
