When you click on a beam with direct modification switched on you need to also click on the dimension text, that brings up the arrows and allows the dimension values to be edited. But tbh it is much much quicker to extend a part by highlighting it (without switching the direct modification on), hold down Alt and drop a window around or just pick the pick point (or points if your extending a profile plate etc) at the end of the beam/ plate you want to extend, right click, select move, drag yo.ur curser in the direction you want to extend, type the value and hit enter. sounds longer when you say it but it literally takes 2 or 3 seconds.

please help, not able to do the length change using the direction tool on. i want to extend the length in one direction, at an angle.

All commands on single screen above, beside and bellow just like old version, in latest versions that options are not possible. only you will get all commands are available above of the screen in tabs from, you need to select from there.
