In Bangladesh, rickshaws are not a luxury transport rather a popular one. However pulling rickshaw here is very low paying and rickshaw pullers are some of the poorest peoples. You will find it hard to earn $20 a day.

This is an example of how hard japanese people work. They acknowledge dignity of labour. The lady is spotlessly clean and so is the rickshaw. At the end of the day, she bows to the rickshaw for the earnings of that day. What humility!!!

This little Lady is indeed a Gem! I hate to say this, but this kind of humility and dedication to their professions is rarely if ever present amongst young people in this country today. It's all about "Me" , social status and the mighty dollar. Japanese workers from the dock gang to the most humble trades practiced a professionalism and a commitment that really impressed me when I used to go to Japanese cities as a merchant seaman onboard Matson, APL and Sealand ships in the 80's and 90's. The Japanese people mostly take pride in whatever they do, and they are some of the best tradesmen and women Worldwide. As a people we not only validate ourselves, but our culture and our way of life. Think about that.

My friend, I thought about the same thing before. It's not just about outside traditional look but also the spirit of traditions. If you breakdown the meaning of Jinriksha (Rickshaw), it's all about human powered vehicle. In Kyoto, there are many rickshaws equipped with brakes because there are many up/downhill slops. Brakes helps and ensure safety to customers, shafu and the public. Other than that, everything remains traditional and just human power to run the vehicle.
