have you ever used a Lithium battery in your UPS? let me know!

What I didn't see you test was running the UPS near max capacity. I think the BMS on the Dakota cells limits the max discharge rate to 10a. So it's likely your 1500va (1000w) ups will shut down if it sees more than about 360w of draw. I did this to one of my UPSs hoping to keep from replacing batteries every three years. It only worked for light loads. I had to go with an external battery pack that allowed higher discharge rates. Still, a good video to inform us of alternate battery types.
@TekShinji2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I actually was able to run it at the 1000 w capacity. Didn't have any issues.
@tubewatcher83302 жыл бұрын
@@TekShinji Cool. Those Dakota cells must be better at higher currents than some of the no-name ones I've tried in my UPSs. Good to know.
@TekShinji2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, to be honest I didn't really look that deeply into it but I just wanted something that would be a good replacement that wasn't SLA. I was pleasantly surprised when I found this out.
@tomzweifel2 жыл бұрын
I still don't grasp the premise of why you're replacing batteries so often... and why if that was the issue didn't you know how where the screws are?
@TekShinji2 жыл бұрын
Sus isn't it? Haha because I was being sarcastic... I've only changed the battery once on that particular unit but other ones many times. Usually I run them at full load. 24/7

LOL great vid Shinji. Hey are those Lithium Ion or which Lithium batteries are they (there is a few)
@TekShinji2 жыл бұрын
They are lithium Iron batteries so much more safe as well. The info is in the description! Let me know if ya want to know more! Or dm me in tekshinji discord! ❤️
@jimmybrad1562 ай бұрын
Prob don't want them to be held higher than 13.5v. I was thinking of using LFPs in my ups but it floats at 13.8v so I'll just replace with cheap SLAs when needed.
@TekShinji2 ай бұрын
Yeah, they don’t charge them as high because it’s still using the SLA chemistry for the charging rhythm/curve. So technically they’re not being charged up all the way or they’re supposed to be.
@jimmybrad1562 ай бұрын
@@TekShinji I know that holding a 12v (4S) lifepo4 battery at 13.43v will keep it at ~92.5% state of charge, so holding at 13.8v would be (as good as) full.

The OPTI-UPS Durable Series DS1500B is 1,500 va (volt-amps,) and 1,050 watts max draw. It's been four months, how are the lithium batteries holding up? Is the runtime better?
@TekShinji2 жыл бұрын
Opd hahahaha The batteries are doing great! The runtime seems to be the same since the charging system is not set for lithium but for lead acid. So technically the batteries are getting charged not to full capacity at like 12:13 volts instead of 14.7

Battery back ups the Bain of TekShinji Existence LOL. I have to do this every 2 years times like 12 units cry
@TekShinji2 жыл бұрын
Hahahah yes the SLA was about once every 2-3 years. And the others were about once (adledfely) 6-10 years
@josearrasola72362 жыл бұрын
Hello I wish I will have seen your videos I have been changing out SLA for 12/14AH batteries on all my ups to 18650 that I build myself and I run my solar system to one ups that’s 1500 watts and then that one runs to another that’s 1000 watts and the a 750 and stops their ! But I have been dining this for about 7-8 years now and this system has not left me in the dark ! Nice to see someone making a video on how easy it is to change out ! Even thou Apex does not approve of this !
@TekShinji2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they don't approve of it. And technically they say it's not the way it should be unless it's a lithium-based charger too. However, it seems to be working great and honestly it seems to be better at holding a long load for a longer period of time versus the SLA batteries

So my 12 v ups uses a 12v 5ah sla. Can I just put a lipo 12v 5ah battery in it? So if I understand the lipo has higher operating voltage and charging but the UPS device is wired for sla. So you think I should go with 12v 6ah lipo?
@TekShinji4 ай бұрын
Hey there, it’s highly dependent on how the UPS is charging circuits and stuff are designed. For a really really old UPS I try to stick with like for like. However, as a general rule of thumb, I try to go with as much capacity with with the same voltage and physical space as possible.
