I'm fortunate enough to have both types of headphones, I main closed backs but the open-backs are great for being able to hear things and sound authenticity, hearing a knock or footsteps sounds a lot more realistic if EQ'd properly. Like you I stay pretty flat on mine, I wont go past +3-4 dB or lower than -1-2 dB.

Thanks for bringing my attention to these. I have an old pair of AKG K702 65th Anniversary Editions I like a lot. But honestly I don't use them much. If I'm gaming by myself or listening to music at my desk, I normally just use my speakers (it's the Pioneer ones Andrew Jones designed, connected through a Topping DX7 Pro and a SMSL SA50 speaker amp), and if I'm gaming in multiplayer I usually use my headset just because it's wireless out of laziness. I can't justify either of these right now, but if they're as comfortable as you say they are I should look into a pair of their cans at some point and get back into headphones. They really do sound so much better, I just find the wires bothersome these days. It would be cool if you get your hands on the Planar Magnetic ones. I've always been curious about Planar Magnetic but never been hands on.

I rarely use headphones as I much prefer desk "monitors", but a pair of open AKG's revealed the next level of sound quality to me a while ago. Flat is good.

That's an interesting point for open back. After I switched to some DT 770s I noticed the sound stage was larger than my previous headphones. I'm guessing open back would be a step further.

I watched your Superlux video 10 years ago. From that point on, the headphones market stagnated and the IEM market went from niche to snake oil to super competitive.

I wish he would put the ads later in the videos. It seems like I have to wait through the tease and an ad to get to the heart of the video. I don't mind the ads, (I do personally recommend who keys which I have used twice) but I usually lose interested before I sit through the ad/sponsor.

One thing I think is important to address in another video is the dreaded HEADPHONE.. DENT..!! 🤣 But seriously it's something that plagues me since I use mine for 9+ hrs a day, I take them off and my head is super sore, anyways great video! 🙂
