Tekton Tools 3/8 Inch Ratchet New and Improved with 30 degree bend
What are your thoughts on Tekton after seeing this video? You can check out the Tekton tools website here bit.ly/2m9jMOr
#Tekton #Tools 3/8 Inch Drive 8” Ratchet Item #SRH0110
90-tooth gear produces a working swing arc of just 4 degrees
Ultra-compact head is smaller than "low profile"-it's reduced in height, width, and length
Classic pull-release drive tang retains sockets with a spring-actuated detent ball
Sleek and simple handle design offers comfort and control in a variety of hand positions
Smooth and refined, the 90-tooth ratcheting system offers a concise 4° swing arc that works in the tightest spaces. Depending on the drive size, the single half-moon pawl maintains 6 to 9 teeth (more than most dual pawl designs) in contact with the gear at all times, ensuring it will never slip or skip under stress.
To aid the initial wear-in of mated parts and to keep them moving smoothly, the internals are lubricated with a few drops of light machine oil. The design of the head and ratcheting mechanism allows it to be disassembled for periodic cleaning or lubrication.

I wont entirely form an opinion based on a video alone, but it sure helps. I've heard really mixed views on Tekton ratchets, with a lot of them saying that they have improved a lot with the current iteration. I need to get my hands on one. Having a blast with my new 3/8 ICON right now though haha.

Strongest 3/8 ratchet I've ever seen. Nearly 300 ft lbs. Took 100 ft lbs more than I would have expected. Snap On should be embarrassed. Lately I've been buying GearWrench when the price is right, certain things from Harbor Freight and I do have a few Duralast tools from Auto Zone that were "free" due to rewards. Happy with them also. Tekton is on the way to being the best overall value available. Plan to buy several items from them. Thanks for this demonstration.

I restore old cars as a hobby. I switched to Tekton tools about a year ago. I absolutely love their swivel head ratchets. They are my new go to ratchets any time I need to work on something. I was in HF getting a tarp and noticed their new swivel head ratchets and composite ratchets are identical to Tekton. So it’s either a rebranded Tekton or is made by the same company that makes Tekton. That 90 tooth ratchet is impressive. That may be the replacement for my old USA made Husky I have been looking for.

According to their website specs, that ratchet was only rated to 240lbs so it certainly exceeded that number. Their 1/2" ratchets are rated to 560lbs. Interestingly enough so are their 1/2" breaker bars so there's not a huge reason to by one since the ratchet can handle the same load. Well worth the money and their lifetime warranty is the best in the business IMO.

I have multiple ratchets in from every brand available and this Tekton ratchet is by far my absolute favorite. I did have a weird issue where it back spun a few times while fully engaged but Tekton sent me a rebuild kit and it’s perfect again. There was some sandy material in the ratchet when I opened it up and I assume it got in there awhile back when I had it apart for grease. Now they need to give it a thin profile comfort grip handle and design a locking flexhead.

Watching videos like this, I think it basically comes down to the heat treatment. One I saw of the box end wrench destruction test, and some broke at the box end, while the others would just bend in the handle, like in this vidjeo. I think a harder heat treat will hold up better in the long run from wearing down, but it makes it easier to snap compared to a lower heat treat of the same type. You get one with a better heat treat and perhaps it can go over 300 or 350lbs but when it does fail, it will just break, instead of bending. There is a tradeoff, but I think I would rather my tools have just a bit of a lower heat treat and bend instead of breaking. First time seeing your channel, but do you got any other brand you would recommend over the tekton for 3/8s ratchet?

@RedemptionGarage
@RedemptionGarage 4 жыл бұрын
@@ViperMods_216 ViperMods_216 yes thats tru the more heat treatment the harder the material which is why there is hardened steel tools are made from high carbon metal which is heat treated to a point to allow the metal to have the highest yield strength which is the total amount of force that metal can take without losing its original form and once it reaches max yield then you see the ratchet bend like it did and once to that point the metal is weakened until it reaches its ultimate tensile strength thats when the metal breaks. Low carbon or no carbon steel is really easy to bend so they infuse the metal with carbon then heat treat it to reach the highest yield strength possible. The fact that the metal bent shows a low yield strength which means that the carbon levels were low or it wasnt heat treated properly. Hardened metal will not bend but explode which they dont want in a ratchet because it has to have high yield strength to allow you to abuse the tool but yet it doesnt lose its original strength. That ratchet is no good anymore regardless if the head snapped or not you couldnt apply any real pressure because it will just continue to bend just like it did in his video. I'm not dogging the tekton if you like it then thats cool brother each man has his own thing but I just am giving the facts as i understand them.

I think the only way they can get that torque rating is by the handle taking some of the pressure off the head by bending.

There ant any words for that same you broke it if the handle hadn't bent it would have been higher but wow over two ninety eat your heart out big boy strap-on can you beet that or was it a fluke of nature the right molecules in the right place at the right time👍🏾? 😲

It’s better that it didn’t break on the bounce as we would have had to throw out the results since it needs to be more consistent. Also gives a good perspective of how much I’m working not just this ratchet but all of them. My arm is going to need a rest soon!

i plan on getting some Icon 1/2 sockets incase of hub bolts or lugnuts on aftermarket wheels. Icon has thinwall sockets similar to snapon and Matco. ICON was designed literally as a rival for snapon.

the point is, no one is going to be able to put 290 pounds on a little 3/8" ratchet by hand. If you use a 2 foot pipe on your ratchets, you're doing tools wrong.

In the real world you want the handle to bend before the tool breaks. Reach the tools limit before you break your hand when you suddenly hit something with it.

In not impressed, preefer the SO and GW that snaps at 280ftlb but can be repaired or guaranteed over a bent ratchet that is junk.

Tekton will replace a bent ratchet as well. Just mail you a new one. So you would have a bent and a new.

I am no mechanic, but it seems that a tool that snaps instead of bends could cause injury. 280ftlbs of potential energy released as kinetic energy in a split second, you would not be able to stop the trajectory of your hand

In case you didn't figure it out yet, the Tekton ratchet body itself is yielding at over 200 ft lbs (watch your video closely). Granted, no ratchet of this length will achieve anything like that without a pipe on it, but it does show that the ratchet itself is basically a piece of inferior garbage metal. One of the worst ratchets I've ever seen. No idea why you guys are touting it as some amazing tool.

Why is that? Wouldnt it do everything a snap on can do?

You can apply 200 foot pounds by hand? That ends up being 400 appliied to a 6 inch ratchet.

I would rather have a ratchet that bends when abused than one that snaps when abused. if this bent at 100 foot-pounds or something I would agree with you, but when a 3 or 4 foot cheater bar had to be used and the internal mechanism held up??? I would say this is the best outcome. He was able to straighten it back, and it still worked! This would be my preferred design since it can work (without bending) during all intended applications, and not snap when abused. I am no mechanic, but it seems that a tool that snaps instead of bends could cause injury. 280ftlbs of potential energy released as kinetic energy in a split second, you would not be able to stop the trajectory of your hand
