Great, luxury repair, the advantage today is that you can order the new foil PCBs, many years ago I repaired such a foil using silver repair varnish to repair a rear window blowout heating mat in cars. 🤔 well, I'm surprised that I can't find any when you bought them all 😂 Nice day 🙂 Tom

I've had success reconnecting damaged flatflex traces in TRS-80 CoCo keyboards using CircuitScribe conductive ink. The failure on the CoCo keyboards looks a lot like what you saw in the THS700. Your solution, however, is substantially cooler.

Thankyou, did you used a Calibrator (wavetek, Fluke) for the calibration ? I am Investigating the usage of the Tek pod HW for updating the Fw of the ths scopes. I purchased a 067-1436-01 pod he but unfortunately the motorola cpu board was missing

@@KonstantinGrigoriadis To do the calibration/adjustment, I used a HP 33120A for the square wave (it has a fast enough rising edge), Advantest 6145 and Yokogawa 2552 DC Standards and a Yokogawa 2558 AC standard, and also a bunch of Vishay precision resistors. You can perform the calibration/adjustment without the pod, but upgrading firmware does need the pod if you don't want to do a full calibration, unless you do the process I show in the video followed by the full calibration. I put all the info I could find on the pod on the Tekwiki: w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/067-1436-00 I don't have the skills to reverse engineer it (nor have I found a Motorola M68332BCCDI 'DIBUG' module here in Japan so far) but I think it would likely be possible to use something like a Raspberry Pi or similar to replace the whole pod entirely...

As mentioned,upgrade from ths710 to ths720 is possible. And some of these oscillioscopes suffer from channel offset(line not center when no signal applied), this can be solved by replace the 4 HCNR201 opto-couplers close to the input hybrid sheild, then perform the SPC.

i replaced one on mine but it didn't help, recalibrating it did fix the offset so ill try that first

I worked for tek as an FAE, in ghe 904's, and, cleaning out a bunch of "junk", came across an early version of these scopes, almost "prototype" appearance... currently in storage, would be cool to dig it out; quite a bit ahead of its time, i think.

Awesome video and upgrades! Did I miss something -- why did you end up replacing the front covers? Both scopes have a different cover at the end than what you started with. Is that because you updated the firmware to convert them from 720STD to 720A (or P) and placed a new cover to match?

I have multiple scopes and was working on all of them at the same time, filming as I went. So sometimes I filmed one scope, sometimes I filmed another scope.

I haven't opened one of these since I converted my THS720A to a THS720P by removing or adding a resistor on the main PCB. Really a minimal effort to convert it. That may have been 10 years ago. I think I upgraded my scope to FW 1.16 using the RJ45 connector though. Why was the chip desoldered and programmed separately in this video?

Sir i don't have enough equipment to test ic .I have only multimeter. Please sir help me which option it will help me to diagnose ic with multimeter in voltage mode..when the power supply is on how can I test voltage of ic and where should I put black lead of multimeter to test red lead on ic terminal please sir help

And today we talk about how many thousand or million waveform updates per second a scope has - I'm pretty sure these things are like 2 seconds / waveform update!

It's an oscilloscope, the update rate is whatever you set the timebase to. The acquisition rate is 25 waveforms per second using both channels and acquisition mode on. As for the multimeter function, I measure the refresh rate at half a second.

All three of mine are very fast to acquire, and display, a signal, and no waiting involved. The user interface is very easy to scroll through if you know what you are looking to do. Perhaps you think of a different model.
