I remember when I was in middle school, pre highschool-ish age, and I loved playing Tauren's (Trolls are my favorite now, but it was Tauren's when I was younger) and it was around the time that people still played all the time. And we got together on our fresh characters, came up with a plan to level up in different areas of Thunderbluff, and then regroup, and think of a way that all of us could work together on the same path, and move up in the ranks. Very good times, although, I never did follow through with said plans, always made a new character to do different things.

The ban on arcane magic has been softened up a lot over the years. This begun with a tolerance for their ally's use of magic and eventually the secluded groups of exiled highborn to be let back into nightelven society. In World of Warcraft you could actually find mages inside the temple of Elune. But those days those mages weren't nightelves and as such had never betrayed them. Some nightelves take their loss of immortality very serious. The horror of growing old over a mere few thousands of years haunts them. This has caused some of them to seek alternative forces to re-empower their immortality causing many to join rather questionable groups to do so.

You do realise Warcraft's teldrassil is a "rip off" of Yggdrassil which is thousands of years old? Most warcraft tropes are tributes to other fantasy works.

@@yaboirairai Ya, I'm a Swedish American. It's not about Teldrassil. It's about Nordrassil, which means Nordic Tree. It's not a rip-off, because it acknowledges Nordic people. James Cameron's version is the DEI rip-off version of the tasteful Night Elf version.

the magic of leveling up in Darkshore, Teldrassil, and Ashenvale -- I can't even tell you. Nothing like it. THAT experience is what contributed to me being Die Hard Alliance. I left the game when it wasn't fun anymore -- playing second fiddle to the horde on everything from racials to quest dialogue was pretty -- pathetic.

I think so. At some point they retconned the NE into using magic again. Which kind of throws away entire novels worth of lore, just to give them some warlocks and mages. But at the end of the day it's all just silly stories so I hope you enjoyed!
